Your role at BHSN :

As a Peer Support Specialist at BHSN, you will promote skills for coping with and managing behavioral health symptoms while facilitating the utilization of natural resources and the enhancement of recovery-oriented principles (e.g. hope and self-efficacy, and community living skills). Peer support uses trauma-informed, non-clinical assistance to achieve long-term recovery from a behavioral health disorder.

What your day might look like :

  • Provides support and care to those engaged in services or treatment
  • Identifies healthy community opportunities for individuals to socialize and interact; promote these opportunities as directed by the care coordinator or other care provider
  • Participates in the writing and timely completion of any required documentation in accordance with state / federal regulations and agency policies and procedures
  • Participates in care planning and coordination meetings to facilitate care process. As assigned, sees individuals who are an immediate crisis to curtail emergency visits and / or inpatient admissions
  • Maintains client confidentiality and confidential health information
  • Your skills and qualifications :

  • High-school graduate or GED.
  • Ability to obtain OMH Peer Certification or Recovery Peer Advocate Certification within 90 days of employment
  • Complete OMH Partnering for Safety & CPR training within 90 days of employment
  • Personal experience with Mental Health recovery-oriented treatment.
  • Extensive knowledge with PC applications and electronic medical records strongly preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation required for local and regional travel.
