Position Overview
The Web Developer at Nelson University plays a key role in advancing the institution’s digital presence and supporting its Christ-centered mission. This position is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing the university’s primary website, academic program pages, enrollment-focused landing pages, intranet, and other digital experiences that serve prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, advancement, and community partners.
Working closely with the Marketing & PR team, Enrollment / Admissions, vendors, and IT, the Web Developer transforms design concepts into responsive, accessible, high-performing web and mobile experiences that reinforce the university’s brand, support recruitment efforts, and contribute to a seamless user journey across all digital touchpoints.
Major Responsibilities
May include, but are not limited to, the following :
Web Development & Maintenance
- Develop, update, and maintain Nelson University’s websites, landing pages, microsites, and digital forms, including mobile experiences.
- Translate design mockups and brand guidelines into functional, mobile‑responsive web pages using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS tools.
- Create and maintain program pages optimized for recruitment, clarity, and user flow.
- Partner with external vendors as needed to complete larger projects
CRM, Integrations & Functionality
Oversee and maintain integrations between the university website and CRM systems (e.g., Elements, 25live, Slate), including inquiry forms, events, and lead-tracking tools.Implement third-party APIs, plugins, and embedded tools to enhance site functionality.Optimization & Performance
Ensure fast load times, clean code, SEO best practices, and web accessibility standards across all site assets.Conduct routine quality assurance testing across all browsers, devices, and screen sizes.Security & Compliance
Collaborate with IT to maintain security, data integrity, and compliance with privacy and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).Perform updates, backups, and monitoring to mitigate vulnerabilities.Content & Team Collaboration
Partner with Marketing & PR to implement branding, messaging, and storytelling across the website.Support content editors across campus with training, documentation, and troubleshooting.Assist with web analytics setup, tracking, tagging, and performance reporting.Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Stay informed on emerging web technologies, higher education digital trends, and creative best practices.Recommend new tools, workflows, and enhancements to drive continuous improvement in web strategy and user experience.Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field.Preferred Education
Master’s degree in a related field.Qualifications
Required
Commitment to the doctrinal convictions of Nelson University and the Assemblies of God (AG)Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design frameworks.Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress).Understanding of UI / UX principles and design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud).Strong debugging, problem-solving, and QA testing skills.Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent organizational skills / Detail orientedWorks efficiently under pressure and consistently meets deadlinesHigh degree of personal initiative and motivationCommitment to excellence, innovation, and supporting the mission and values of Nelson University.Preferred
Experience integrating CRM platforms (e.g., Elements) with web assets.Familiarity with SEO strategy, schema markup, and analytics tools (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, etc.).Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and related compliance practices.Experience with Asana (Project Management)Familiarity with higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.Experience working in cross-functional teams involving marketing, admissions, and IT.Schedule
This is an onsite position. The person hired for this position will be required to work in person at our Waxahachie, Texas location. The work hours are full time, Monday–Friday, 8 : 00 a.m.–5 : 00 p.m. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required during major web launches, recruitment cycles, or university events.
