Role impact

As an Aerospace Prototype Machinist, you’ll take ownership of manual setups and operations, ensuring parts meet demanding tolerances and customer expectations. You’ll use SPC data, GD&T, and Lean practices to solve problems, improve flow, and finish initiatives on time with cross‑functional partners.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machine tools to produce high‑precision parts (aerospace environment preferred).
  • Read and interpret blueprints / technical drawings; operation / tooling / set ‑up sheets; procedures; ECNs; routers; and performance graphs / metrics.
  • Inspect work using precision instruments; maintain quality with SPC and structured problem solving.
  • Lead / assist root‑cause investigations and troubleshooting; employ Lean Manufacturing concepts to improve safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Provide creative input for manufacturing, inspection, assembly, and test fixtures.
  • Participate in team meetings and improvement programs; support training of personnel (as directed).
  • Follow all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies / procedures ; maintain a clean, secure, well‑organized workspace.
  • Communicate effectively at all organizational levels; keep management informed; complete special projects and related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in precision manual machining and setup (tight tolerances); aerospace preferred.
  • High school diploma / GED or vocational / technical school equivalent.
  • Solid math skills; proficient with shop documentation (blueprints, ECNs, operation / tooling sheets, routers, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, inspection methods, metrology tools, SPC, performance metrics, and root‑cause analysis.
  • Self‑starter who can plan, organize, and multi‑task; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proven ability to run equipment efficiently, safely, and consistently.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Work environment

  • Manufacturing / machine shop exposure : fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration.
  • Work in both office and shop spaces; use standard office equipment and required PPE (eye, hearing, and foot protection).
  • Temperature may be influenced by weather and machining processes.
  • Full‑time; overtime and some weekends may be required.
  • No travel expected.
  • Physical demands

  • Talk and hear regularly; frequent reaching and handling.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Stand 7–8 hours daily; sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, crouch, and move throughout the facility.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 70 lbs.
  • Schedule

  • Four‑day workweek : Monday–Thursday, 6 : 00 a.m.–4 : 30 p.m.
