Purpose of position : To support Safety, Quality and Compliance functions by managing hazardous materials programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining accurate documentation and promoting continuous improvement in the safe handling, storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous materials within Segers Aero.
Essential Functions : (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).
- Trains, coaches, and develops as necessary to ensure that goals are met and proper procedures and policies are followed.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, FAA, and other applicable regulations related to hazardous materials.
- Ensure compliance with DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171–180), including classification, packaging, marking, labeling, shipping papers, and incident reporting.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates to company policies.
- Support certified hazardous materials shippers by reviewing documentation and ensuring compliance prior to shipment.
- Leads or participates in improvement efforts to improve turn time, reduce errors or reduce costs using continuous improvement tools.
- Develop, implement and maintains hazardous materials management programs, including labeling, storage, and disposal procedures.
- Develop, enforce and stop work related to hazardous materials handling, maintenance safety and transportation compliance, including the authority to halt transportation operations, approve corrective actions and respond to incidents involving DOT‑regulated vehicles, hazardous materials or safety‑critical personnel.
- Maintain DOT hazmat training records in accordance with regulatory retention requirements.
- Interpret and apply requirements for classification, packaging, labeling and shipping hazardous materials.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of required reports (e.g., Tier II, EPCRA, waste manifests).
- Provide and document DOT-required initial and recurrent hazardous materials training (general awareness, function-specific, safety and security awareness)
- Support FAA Part 145 repair station compliance related to hazardous materials handling, storage, and shipping.
- Ensure compliance with FAA and IATA requirements for shipping hazardous goods by air.
- Ensure hazardous materials incidents are reported in accordance with DOT requirements
- Manage hazardous materials inventory and ensure proper segregation and storage.
- Monitor expiration dates and coordinate disposal of outdated materials.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for hazardous material incidents.
- Conduct internal hazardous materials and safety compliance audits and prepare for external regulatory and third-party audits.
- Maintain accurate records of hazardous material usage, disposal, and employee training.
- Coordinate spill response and remediation activities when necessary.
- Utilize electronic systems to complete transactions and maintain accurate hazardous materials, safety, and compliance records.
- Initiates requisitions for hazmat control equipment and materials as necessary
- Participates in or leads root cause investigations for hazmat and safety incidents
- Follows-up on and ensures items and requests are addressed, corrected, and closed.
- Confers with manager / lead to recommend changes such as : equipment utilization, production methods and / or procedures to increase efficiency of the department and promote improvement.
- Maintains a clean / safe workspace free from spills or obstructions which may lead to harm.
- Travels as required
- Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner
- Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy
- Works overtime as needed
- Observes and practices all safety procedures and personal policies (e.g. Safety-glasses, ear plugs, face shields etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned

High School Diploma or GED is required.A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management or a related field is preferred.A minimum of one year of Environmental, Health and Safety experience is required.Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, FAA and IATA regulations is preferredMust pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.Work conditions :
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.
