Temple Sinai Preschool is a play-based, Jewish preschool in Oakland. We strive to create a warm and welcoming classroom and school environment that supports children in positive play, building community, and developing a positive Jewish identity.

Position : Afternoon Support Teacher (Part-Time)

Hours : 1 : 00pm - 5 : 30pm, Monday - Friday

Pay Rate : $23.00 - 26.00 / hr commiserate with education and experience.

Job Purpose :

The Afternoon Support Teacher works in partnership with teaching teams to provide consistent, responsive support across classrooms. This role helps ensure a warm, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for all children by actively engaging in the daily rhythm of the classroom, fostering meaningful relationships, and supporting the implementation of curriculum. The Afternoon Support Teacher collaborates with colleagues to uphold the school’s values and create a positive, inclusive classroom community.

Key Responsibilities

Jewish Values & Curriculum

Support the implementation of curriculum and daily routines that reflect Jewish holidays, traditions, and values

Foster an environment that reflects our core Jewish values of B’tzelem Elohim (Created in the Image of the Divine), Kavod (Respect), and Kavanah (Intention)

Help create meaningful, inclusive experiences that support children’s emerging identities and sense of belonging

Professionalism

Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic

Maintain confidentiality for all children, families, and colleagues

Engage in reflective practice and accept feedback with openness

Use time efficiently and responsibly

Contribute to a respectful, collaborative workplace culture

Attend required staff meetings and school events as outlined in the employment contract, including occasional evening or weekend commitments

Be a flexible and supportive member of the school community

Adapt to changing needs based on program enrollment and scheduling

Teacher & Staff Relations

Work cooperatively and collaboratively with co-teachers, assistant teachers, and administrators

Offer and receive respectful, timely feedback as part of a learning-centered team

Participate actively in staff meetings and professional development

Demonstrate responsiveness to direction and guidance from school leadership

Stay current with communication, including emails, Brightwheel, calendars, and school updates

Teacher & Parent Relations

Greet families warmly and respectfully

Maintain confidentiality in all family interactions

Support positive and trusting relationships between families and the classroom teams

Teacher & Child Relations

Demonstrate knowledge of each child and a commitment to supporting their individual development

Engage with children through a warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate approach

Support peer relationships and social-emotional growth through gentle guidance and presence

Participate in children’s play as a coach, role model, and active observer

Reinforce classroom expectations and help guide problem-solving and conflict resolution with empathy and respect

Redirect behaviors with empathy and understanding, in alignment with classroom norms

Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment that nurtures each child’s sense of belonging

Environment

Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom

Support the presentation of materials and classroom aesthetics in alignment with children’s interests and developmental needs

Contribute to creating environments that reflect the values, identities, and learning of the children

Health & Safety

Maintain active supervision of children at all times

Adhere to all health and safety protocols, including those in the Emergency Preparedness Handbook

Assist in maintaining cleanliness and safety of all indoor and outdoor learning spaces

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Minimum 1 year of experience in an early childhood or early elementary education setting

Demonstrated interest in continued professional growth and learning

12 ECE Units

Additional Requirements

Up to Date Mandated Reporter Training Certificate

Health screening and TB test

Immunization records (MMR, Tdap, and Influenza)

Pediatric CPR / First Aid

Completion of all required Community Care Licensing (CCLD) paperwork
