The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a LPHA (Licensed Practitioner of Healing Arts) for our TRIAD Prevention Mental Health program. This position is located at the Youth Service Center and receives clinical supervision from the site-supervisor of the Harris County Resource for Children and Adults (HCRCA) and administrative supervision by the Program Director of Juvenile Justice Forensic Services at the Harris Center for Mental Health & IDD. The LPHA performs clinical activities such as independent assessments and assigned clinical tasks as directed by the treatment plan and/or identified consumer need/(s). The LPHA provides assessment and therapeutic counseling services to children and their involved families. The goal is to optimize the child's and family's functioning in the most effective, least restrictive manner possible. The LPHA provides community or office-based services in Harris County. The LPHA interfaces with external referring treatment teams and community stakeholders to assess and authorize the medical necessity of clinical activities as necessary

Your role in action:
  • Conduct assessments, such as the Child & Adolescent Needs & Strengths (CANS), that provide accurate and timely information regarding the most appropriate services and interventions for the clients and their families such as on-going counseling services.
  • Provides appropriate evidence-based clinical psychotherapies, as per their licensure and training, focusing on the reduction or elimination of symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and increasing the individual's ability to perform activities of daily living.
  • Responsible for formulation of consumer treatment needs (assessment of needs, treatment planning, admit/discharge planning and conducting clinical services) by ensuring that all services provided meet eligibility criteria and are authorized in accordance with agency and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor consumer progress with treatment goals to determine effectiveness of interventions, generating and coordinating revisions as needed.
  • Provides training/education to consumers and their families on the nature of presenting problems, addressing the symptoms related to the problems interfering with the individual's functioning, supporting the family/caregiver/guardian/provider's role/(s) towards successful discharge, as well as other related/relevant trainings as assigned.
  • Responsible for timely documentation of all clinical work performed and maintaining current records meeting all recording requirements of both agencies.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with court, community and other programs of Harris County Resources for Children and Adults and The Harris Center.
  • Advocates for consumers to ensure that needs are met both within The Harris Center system and within the community.
  • Performs activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access to necessary care and services based on individual needs with community providers.
  • Participates in Harris County Resources for Children & Adults (HCRCA) and Harris Center meetings and supervisions as required.
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct in all professional and clinical activities and upholds consistently The Harris Center's standards of behavior.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract and productivity standards, outcomes and goals.
  • Performs related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements
What qualifications will you need:

Education:
  • Master's degree (M.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service field, including but not limited to: psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, and educational psychology.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), LMFT.
Experience:
  • Must have 2 years experiencing working in a mental health setting
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have basic knowledge of principles of the development, implementation and documentation of individualized care and treatment for a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
  • Maintains current licensure/credentials with appropriate state licensure regulatory board.
  • Ability to effectively lead others.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to effectively converse and listen to others and construct clear and concise written communication.
  • Ability to identify and offer solutions to resolve problems, using knowledge of the organization to identify helpful resources.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
