Description :

The staff nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who, as the patient's primary nurse, is responsible and accountable for the overall management of the nursing care provided.

The role ensures competent, compassionate, and cost-effective patient care from admission to discharge.

It involves assuring the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients.

The RN will perform disease prevention and restorative measures as needed.

The nurse must respond to medical and environmental emergencies effectively.

This position may require floating to other units within the scope of practice.

Flexibility to float to different units is expected depending on need or census.

Notice of 1.5 hours prior to the shift start time may be provided in most cases.

Interdisciplinary support will be available from various services.

The unit typically handles a patient population of adults with various oncology diagnoses.

Successful candidates will bring experience in oncology patient care and infusion management.

Ongoing patient and family education and support are crucial components of the role.

The RN will manage central lines and care for patients with various types of cancer.

Strong skills in intravenous hydration, symptom management, and patient assessments are essential.

The RN must be prepared to manage acute changes in patient conditions and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
