Overview : Summary : Provides clinical nursing expertise in areas of care practice, consultation, interdisciplinary collaboration and specialty program development for a defined patient population. Works with clinical team to facilitate quality patient care across the continuum. Develops and coordinates educational opportunities that promote professional nursing practice. • Associate Degree
• Minimum ADN preparation with expectation of BSN completion within 5 years of hire
• Degree from accredited academic nursing program (If a program is under conditional status, approval may be granted by system CNO)
• State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License or Graduate Nurse Permit required Academic Preparation :
• Certified Lactation Counselor or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
• Maintain Certification and CEs appropriate for a Lactation Counselor or IBCLC.
• Register with the NM Board of Nursing Lactation Care Providers.

• Teach childbirth education classes
• Teach prenatal breastfeeding classes
• Providing one on one breastfeeding education to new mothers during their hospital stay
• Answering calls regarding breastfeeding.
• Providing post-discharge breastfeeding consultation to new mothers.
• Assists with the development, implementation, and education of staff with Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative
• Assists with reporting monthly statistics for Baby Friendly, Shaken Baby Syndrome
