Emerging Tech is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (CTPA) to provide on-site surgical and perioperative cardiothoracic support services to Veterans at the VA San Francisco Health Care System in California. The CTPA will deliver advanced cardiothoracic surgical assistance, perform complex endoscopic graft harvesting, support robotic and open surgical cases, and contribute to the VA’s mission of providing world-class care to our nation’s Veterans.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic physician assistant services, including endoscopic radial and saphenous vein harvesting (>
100 documented procedures in each location required), ultrasound-guided arterial and venous access for central line placement, and the insertion and removal of chest tubes, pigtails, Swan-Ganz catheters, and pacing wires.
Perform first and second assistant duties during cardiothoracic surgeries in the operating room, including robotic-assisted procedures, ensuring safe and efficient intraoperative support.Conduct patient care activities such as pre-operative preparation, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative follow-up in accordance with the CTPA Scope of Practice and SFVAHCS clinical standards.Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary staff, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, perfusionists, and other surgical team members to ensure coordinated, evidence-based, and Veteran-centered care.Arrive on time and fully prepared for all scheduled OR start times, meeting all SFVAHCS timeliness and patient access requirements.Document all patient interactions, procedures, and clinical notes on the VA’s electronic medical system (VistA / CPRS), in full compliance with VA, TJC, AHA, and SFVAHCS documentation requirements.Maintain ongoing compliance with VA credentialing, privileging, CME, CEU, and mandatory training requirements, including ACLS, BLS, privacy / HIPAA, workplace harassment prevention, and annual VA-specific training.Ensure all services meet and exceed nationally recognized clinical standards, including NCCPA, Joint Commission (TJC), American Hospital Association (AHA), and all policies referenced in the Performance Work Statement.Minimum Qualifications :
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.Current, active, full, and unrestricted PA license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.Board Certification through the national Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).Must have documented experiences of >100 endoscopic radial and saphenous vein harvesting in each location.
Ability to meet SFVAHCS credentialing and prevailing requirements and maintain compliance with all Medical Staff Bylaws and PA SOPs.Strong ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary cardiothoracic surgery team and maintain high standards of communication and professionalism.Completion of all required VA mandatory training, including ACLS, BLS, privacy, information security, infection control, and VA TMS coursework.
