Assistant Professor, Cell And Molecular Biology
The Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking to hire a tenure-track faculty member in cell and molecular biology at the rank of Assistant Professor. All research areas in cell and molecular biology will be considered, with a preferred emphasis on stem cell research using cell culture, organoid, or non-vertebrate study systems. We seek candidates who are interdisciplinary, collaborative, and student-centric. As an integrative biology department, we welcome multidisciplinary research approaches that may include, e.g., modern methods in gene editing and high throughput sequencing. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous and sustainable portfolio built on externally funded research; mentor undergraduate, MS, and PhD students; develop innovative and inclusive teaching practices; and perform service for the department, university, and beyond.
The Biology Major is the largest undergraduate program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, serving approximately 2,000 undergraduates and emphasizing basic knowledge in biology ranging from cell and molecular biology to ecology and evolution, as well as the development of skill sets in the scientific method, critical thinking, and technical writing. Our PhD and master's programs in Integrative and Systems Biology encourage multi-disciplinary faculty participation from across the CU Denver Campus, Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and the Anschutz Medical Campus.
The successful candidate will establish a sustainable, externally funded research program, ideally incorporating aspects of stem cell biology using cell culture, organoids, or non-vertebrate systems. Research will involve undergraduate and graduate students, and the successful candidate will develop a mentoring approach providing fundamental training in the process of and identity within science, with an eye towards building bridges to successful student careers following graduation. Teaching could include courses in general cell biology, developmental biology, pathology, cell biology of disease, human anatomy, human physiology, or courses in other areas developed by the successful candidate. These courses will support graduate students in Integrative Biology and undergraduate students in biology degree program tracks emphasizing biotechnology, human biology, and integrative biology and students in the post-baccalaureate, Allied and Professional Health Sciences program. Competitive applicants will contribute to the CU Denver and the Department of Integrative Biology innovative teaching and research portfolios. Contribution is demonstrated, in part, through providing engagement opportunities, support and clear commitment to the student body.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- A Ph.D. in the biological sciences or related field
- Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications that reflect rigorous scientific methodology and contribute novel insights to the applicant's area of expertise.
