Responsibilities
Assists the Chief of Police with directing, managing, supervising and coordinating the activities of the Operations, Professional Standards, and Criminal Investigations and Intelligence bureaus to include the Real Time Crime Center.
- Assists and supports the Chief of Police in every phase of the Department's operation including the enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, regulations and ordinances in order to preserve and protect life, health and property. Coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies, while providing highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Chief of Police. In the absence of the Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief assumes command and control of police operations.
- Plans and administers police bureaus for the Police Department. Oversees the daily operations of Patrol, SROs, Security Staff, and Evidence.
- Establishes and manages relationships with local law enforcement agencies on all levels, University departments, news media representatives, social service agencies and general public special interest groups to provide information on crime prevention and criminal activity.
- Manages the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Professional Standards bureau. Monitors and plans for proper budget utilization, allocation of personnel, supplies and equipment.
- Supervises reporting USPS and A&P staff; completes employee performance evaluations, provides opportunities for professional development, mentors and develops officers, and assists with hiring processes. Serves on-call and as an incident commander for major events.
- Coordinates and cooperates with other staff and personnel in the development of procedures to develop investigators and evidence handing, technology, morale, discipline, training and other functions to improve the efficiency of the Department.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and six years of experience in sworn law enforcement. (Note : post high-school education and / or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)
