Job Description:

Apex Systems is looking to hire a REMOTE AI Software Engineer (Agentic AI).

This assignment is anticipated to be a 6‑month contract with strong potential for extension; however, Apex Systems cannot guarantee the length of this assignment.

This position is fully remote with a standard Monday–Friday schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain AI‑driven software solutions that support and enhance enterprise operational workflows.
  • Build AI agents using modern techniques such as prompt engineering, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), agent orchestration frameworks, function calling, evaluation methods, and guardrails.
  • Apply strong software engineering, DevOps, and security best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, testing strategies, and secure coding standards.
  • Design and implement data pipelines and models that power AI solutions, partnering with data engineering teams as needed to ensure scalability, reliability, and data quality.
  • Develop AI services and integrations using Python, SQL, and web frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
  • Package and deploy AI solutions using containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate closely with business, product, and technical stakeholders to understand use cases and translate needs into effective AI solutions.
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, and data teams to define technical requirements and ensure smooth system integration.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and needs to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of projects end‑to‑end with minimal supervision.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance.
  • Stay current on emerging AI technologies and contribute to the evolution of internal AI platforms and practices.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in software engineering, AI/ML engineering, or data science, with at least 1 year focused on agent‑based or LLM‑driven solutions.
  • Hands‑on experience with AI agent frameworks or SDKs.
  • Familiarity with agent communication or coordination protocols.
  • Strong experience working in cloud environments (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure acceptable).
  • Proficiency in Python, API development, SQL, system design, and DevOps/AIOps practices.
  • Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing deployed AI or software solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex, open‑ended problems.

Nice to Have:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with advanced AI techniques such as model fine‑tuning or custom algorithm development.
  • Exposure to enterprise operational systems or platforms.
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience with managed AI platforms and tooling.
