Job description

Communications Manager

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina is seeking a skilled and creative Communications Manager to lead and enhance our communications work, with a strong focus on digital content, storytelling, and connecting with North Carolinians across the state.

We are looking for someone who understands the value of public service in North Carolina and the importance of communicating that work clearly and effectively. This position is well-suited for a digital-first communicator who can move quickly, think creatively, and share stories that reflect the priorities and values of the Lieutenant Governor's Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Media & Digital Outreach

  • Pitch and coordinate interviews with a range of outlets, including digital publications, podcasts, and community-based platforms.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the Lieutenant Governor's reach across diverse audiences and platforms.

  • Develop talking points, interview preparation materials, and briefing documents that reflect the office's voice and priorities.

  • Social Media & Digital Storytelling

  • Lead day-to-day strategy, content creation, and publishing across official social media channels.

  • Produce engaging content such as posts, short videos, infographics, and policy explainers.

  • Propose creative digital initiatives that highlight North Carolina communities and stories.

  • Monitor performance, adjust strategies, and stay informed on digital trends relevant to North Carolina.

  • Speeches & Messaging

  • Draft speeches and remarks, collaborating with senior staff to refine content.

  • Accurately reflect the Lieutenant Governor's voice, values, and leadership style in all communications.

  • Maintain a system for tracking past remarks and core messaging.

  • Proactive Support & Execution

  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the Lieutenant Governor is well-prepared and supported for all public engagements.

Ideal Candidate

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, digital media, journalism, or public affairs (government or public sector experience preferred).

  • Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for North Carolina's people, communities, and culture.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

  • Comfortable working closely with senior leadership in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Compensation and Classification

This is an exempt position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
