Robert Half Management Resources is seeking an experienced Interim Assistant Controller to support the daily operations of the accounting department for our manufacturing client in Camarillo. This key, on-site opportunity offers an immediate start and requires a hands-on leader with a manufacturing background to drive high-impact accounting and finance functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliation and reporting.
  • Reconcile and monitor all accounting transactions, publishing monthly financial statements.
  • Provide detailed performance and cost analysis to manufacturing teams.
  • Analyze manufacturing cost data and prepare reports comparing standard vs. actual production costs.
  • Analyze and collect costs regarding business activities such as raw materials, inventory, and labor.
  • Assess changes in product designs, materials, or manufacturing methods for cost impact with Engineering / Operations.
  • Deliver management reports outlining product pricing and profitability factors.
  • Develop and maintain annual direct labor and manufacturing overhead rates and associated budgets.
  • Support monthly close, including work order closures, error resolution, variance / absorption calculations, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Serve as a resource for Finance and other departments on general and cost accounting and inventory issues.
  • Partner with Engineering to develop and maintain standard product costs and establish standards for new products.
  • Lead quarterly financial forecasts and annual budget cycles.
  • Manage and enhance work order and inventory accounting systems.
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Lead annual audit processes, including 401(k) and Workers' Compensation audits.
  • Coordinate periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile to accounting data.
  • Support ad-hoc accounting and financial analysis projects.
  • Complete additional duties and strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline (preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with recent hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Month-end and year-end closing experience required; audit coordination highly desirable.
  • Advanced knowledge of cost accounting, inventory management, and variance analysis.
  • Proven ability to partner cross-functionally, especially with Engineering and Operations.
  • Expertise with work order and inventory accounting systems, Dynamics NAV or similar system.
  • Strong analytical skills; capable of delivering performance insights and management reporting.
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven.
  • Effective communicator, able to present complex information to multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems.
  • Able to start immediately and work on-site in Camarillo.
