BUILD A SAFER, STRONGER MANUFACTURING OPERATION
We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager to lead EHS programs at a metal manufacturing facility in Johnstown, Ohio.
This facility produces custom, made-to-order ceiling systems using a variety of metals, materials, equipment, and manufacturing processes. The position is ideal for a hands-on EHS leader who thrives on the production floor, builds strong relationships with employees and supervisors, and takes a proactive approach to identifying and correcting workplace hazards.
This is not a desk-based compliance position. Approximately 95% of the EHS Manager's time will be spent in the field, maintaining a visible presence throughout the facility, engaging employees, observing work activities, conducting inspections, and driving practical improvements.
While the position supports both environmental and safety compliance, the primary focus will be occupational safety, incident prevention, risk reduction, and employee engagement.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
💲 Annual Salary: $80,000 to $95,000

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Field Safety Leadership
Maintain a consistent and highly visible presence throughout the manufacturing facility
Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and operational risks before they result in injuries or incidents
Partner with employees, supervisors, and leadership to implement practical corrective actions
Conduct routine facility inspections and follow corrective actions through completion
Reinforce safe work practices and promote accountability at all levels of the organization
Build employee engagement and strengthen the facility's overall safety culture
Incident Investigation and Risk Reduction
Lead incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations
Identify root causes and develop effective corrective and preventive actions
Conduct job hazard analyses and formal risk assessments
Recommend engineering, administrative, and procedural controls
Track corrective actions and verify that improvements are implemented and sustained
Environmental Compliance
Support air compliance activities, including inspections, permitting, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting
Manage waste compliance programs, facility inspections, documentation, and reporting requirements
Maintain accurate environmental compliance records
Coordinate with operations and leadership to address environmental risks and regulatory obligations
Occupational Health
Coordinate employee exposure monitoring for noise, dust, chemicals, and other workplace hazards
Review monitoring results and recommend appropriate controls
Support industrial hygiene and employee health initiatives
Partner with operational leaders to reduce workplace exposures
EHS Program Management
Drive site-wide environmental, health, and safety compliance initiatives
Monitor compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable environmental regulations
Develop, maintain, and improve EHS policies, procedures, and training programs
Communicate safety expectations clearly across all levels of the organization
Use inspections, incident trends, observations, and performance data to guide continuous improvement efforts
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must meet one of the following experience pathways:
Education Pathway
✅ Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, or a closely related field
✅ At least three years of safety management experience
Certification and Experience Pathway
✅ Current certification issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, SMS, or STS
✅ At least eight years of safety management experience
All candidates must also have:
✅ Experience leading formal incident investigations
✅ Strong knowledge of workplace safety programs and regulatory compliance
✅ Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or similarly high-hazard environment
✅ Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
✅ Strong communication, leadership, and employee-engagement skills
✅ Ability and willingness to spend approximately 95% of the workday in the field
✅ Comfort working around metal fabrication, production equipment, noise, dust, chemicals, and active manufacturing operations
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Metal manufacturing or fabrication safety
OSHA compliance and program management
Environmental permitting and regulatory reporting
Waste management and hazardous-material compliance
Industrial hygiene and exposure monitoring
Root-cause analysis and corrective action management
Machine guarding, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, and material handling
Continuous improvement and behavior-based safety initiatives
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The strongest candidate will be a confident, approachable EHS professional who is comfortable walking the floor, engaging employees, challenging unsafe practices, and partnering with operations to develop solutions that work in the real world.
This individual should be equally capable of leading an incident investigation, assessing a production hazard, supporting an environmental inspection, and coaching employees and supervisors on safer ways to complete their work.
