EHS MANAGER

Metal Manufacturing | Direct-Hire Leadership Opportunity

📍 Location: Johnstown, Ohio
📅 Start Date: ASAP
💼 Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire, W2
🌞 Shift: First Shift
🕒 Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 40 hours per week

BUILD A SAFER, STRONGER MANUFACTURING OPERATION

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager to lead EHS programs at a metal manufacturing facility in Johnstown, Ohio.

This facility produces custom, made-to-order ceiling systems using a variety of metals, materials, equipment, and manufacturing processes. The position is ideal for a hands-on EHS leader who thrives on the production floor, builds strong relationships with employees and supervisors, and takes a proactive approach to identifying and correcting workplace hazards.

This is not a desk-based compliance position. Approximately 95% of the EHS Manager's time will be spent in the field, maintaining a visible presence throughout the facility, engaging employees, observing work activities, conducting inspections, and driving practical improvements.

While the position supports both environmental and safety compliance, the primary focus will be occupational safety, incident prevention, risk reduction, and employee engagement.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

💲 Annual Salary: $80,000 to $95,000

The comprehensive benefits package includes:

✅ Medical, dental, and prescription drug coverage
✅ Company-supported life insurance
✅ 401(k) retirement plan with company match
✅ Long-term disability coverage
✅ Paid vacation and sick time
✅ Career development opportunities based on individual strengths and interests
✅ Additional company-sponsored benefits

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Field Safety Leadership

  • Maintain a consistent and highly visible presence throughout the manufacturing facility

  • Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and operational risks before they result in injuries or incidents

  • Partner with employees, supervisors, and leadership to implement practical corrective actions

  • Conduct routine facility inspections and follow corrective actions through completion

  • Reinforce safe work practices and promote accountability at all levels of the organization

  • Build employee engagement and strengthen the facility's overall safety culture

Incident Investigation and Risk Reduction

  • Lead incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations

  • Identify root causes and develop effective corrective and preventive actions

  • Conduct job hazard analyses and formal risk assessments

  • Recommend engineering, administrative, and procedural controls

  • Track corrective actions and verify that improvements are implemented and sustained

Environmental Compliance

  • Support air compliance activities, including inspections, permitting, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting

  • Manage waste compliance programs, facility inspections, documentation, and reporting requirements

  • Maintain accurate environmental compliance records

  • Coordinate with operations and leadership to address environmental risks and regulatory obligations

Occupational Health

  • Coordinate employee exposure monitoring for noise, dust, chemicals, and other workplace hazards

  • Review monitoring results and recommend appropriate controls

  • Support industrial hygiene and employee health initiatives

  • Partner with operational leaders to reduce workplace exposures

EHS Program Management

  • Drive site-wide environmental, health, and safety compliance initiatives

  • Monitor compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable environmental regulations

  • Develop, maintain, and improve EHS policies, procedures, and training programs

  • Communicate safety expectations clearly across all levels of the organization

  • Use inspections, incident trends, observations, and performance data to guide continuous improvement efforts

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet one of the following experience pathways:

Education Pathway

✅ Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, or a closely related field
✅ At least three years of safety management experience

Certification and Experience Pathway

✅ Current certification issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, SMS, or STS
✅ At least eight years of safety management experience

All candidates must also have:

✅ Experience leading formal incident investigations
✅ Strong knowledge of workplace safety programs and regulatory compliance
✅ Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or similarly high-hazard environment
✅ Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
✅ Strong communication, leadership, and employee-engagement skills
✅ Ability and willingness to spend approximately 95% of the workday in the field
✅ Comfort working around metal fabrication, production equipment, noise, dust, chemicals, and active manufacturing operations

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Metal manufacturing or fabrication safety

  • OSHA compliance and program management

  • Environmental permitting and regulatory reporting

  • Waste management and hazardous-material compliance

  • Industrial hygiene and exposure monitoring

  • Root-cause analysis and corrective action management

  • Machine guarding, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, and material handling

  • Continuous improvement and behavior-based safety initiatives

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The strongest candidate will be a confident, approachable EHS professional who is comfortable walking the floor, engaging employees, challenging unsafe practices, and partnering with operations to develop solutions that work in the real world.

This individual should be equally capable of leading an incident investigation, assessing a production hazard, supporting an environmental inspection, and coaching employees and supervisors on safer ways to complete their work.

APPLY TODAY

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EHS leader seeking a stable, direct-hire position with strong benefits, long-term career development, and the ability to make a visible impact within a growing manufacturing operation.

📩 Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply immediately for consideration.
