DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Building Operations is a large division within the Facilities Management (FM) Department. Building Operations provides the campus community, including two medical centers and other off-site locations with the best, most optimal working and learning environment through well maintained buildings and uninterrupted utilities. The annual budget for FM's Building Operation's is $20 Million with $40 Million for utility expenses.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Locksmiths specify electronic and mechanical hardware to provide security appropriate for campus facilities including classrooms, research labs and animal facilities. Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and engineering instructions for assembling and installing low voltage (under 50V) electronic security components including networked access control systems and stand alone digital electronic locks. Install, troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical door operators; interface ADA compliant door operators with card reader systems. Install and repair all types of mechanical locks and associated hardware. Change combinations of mechanical digital locks, design key systems for integration to master key system; duplicate keys by machine and hand. Install various lock types and door equipment including low-voltage electrified panic hardware, locking systems, exit devices, door closers, floor checks and door butts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Thorough journey level knowledge, experience and skills in locksmithing and electronic security; knowledge and ability to utilize correct tools, techniques and methods for handling specific Locksmithing and Electronic Security projects. Experience working in large settings like hospitals, municipalities or universities is preferred.

Strong demonstrated ability through experience to install, program, troubleshoot and repair all types of mechanical locks and associated hardware and various types of electronic access control systems; strong working knowledge of low-voltage electrified panic hardware, locking systems, and door closers; basic knowledge of Closed Circuit TV systems and related hardware.

Proficiency through experience in use of computers and mobile devices, online timekeeping system, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and the use of various trade-related software such as Omnilock Facilities Manager, Alarm Lock D L Windows, Schlage SMS, HPC Code Source, and key tracking software; demonstrated experience updating and maintaining a variety of information into databases.

Strong demonstrated ability and experience interpreting equipment manufacturers manuals, service requests, blueprints and system diagrams. Experience working with Building Codes, Department of Industrial Health Standards, ADA Regulations, Fire Codes and University Accessibility guidelines as related to the trade.

Experience in securing a building, including responsibility of safeguarding and securing keys; experience with use of commercial door locks, panic hardware, and hold-open devices.

Experience using and maintaining of hand and power tools related to job functions.

Ability to effectively provide accurate cost estimates including materials and labor for requested scope of work.

Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone and / or two-way radio.

Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment related to the trade.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

DOJ / FBI / DMV background checks and clearances required.

Must possess and maintain valid California Driver License.

Must possess and maintain valid Locksmith Registration with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.

Must be available to work overtime, work on-call, weekend shifts and / or respond to emergencies.

Ability to work in morgues / gross anatomy / pathological laboratories where human / animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker and / or contaminated by radioactive bio-hazardous substances.

Physical ability to perform all job functions and duties; ability to move through limited access spaces and to safely move supplies and objects up to 50 pounds.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $92,123 - $92,123 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $44.12 - $44.12

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
