Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations & Efficiency

  • Assist the Manager in developing and setting lab goals and strategic plans.
  • Communicate management’s plans and expectations to lab personnel.
  • Guide and monitor lab personnel performance to achieve lab goals.
  • Ensure optimal lab efficiency through proper scheduling of lab manpower.
  • Liaise with Chemists to review testing schedules for operational efficiency.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Evaluate and manage the closure of Out-of-Limit (OOL) investigations.
  • Provide guidance and expertise for complex investigation cases.
  • Maintain and monitor control charts / parameter trends for critical tests.
  • Ensure Six Sigma process control and optimize processes through UCL settings.
  • Materials, Products & Systems Release

  • Ensure timely release of materials, products, and critical systems according to specifications.
  • Monitor release timelines and approval processes to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Review and evaluate purchase requisitions.
  • Monitor lab supply consumption patterns for cost-effective purchasing.
  • Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance

  • Comply with company EHS management standards and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS procedures and requirements to achieve zero lost-time accidents.
  • Training & Development

  • Review and manage lab training and certification programs to meet testing requirements.
  • Ensure subordinates are properly trained and certified before performing tests independently.
  • Administer, evaluate, and counsel subordinates on their performance and appraisals.
  • Provide regular feedback and developmental guidance.
  • Project Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive and coordinate lab projects, assigning responsibilities, guiding implementation, and monitoring progress.
  • Initiate and manage lab improvement projects, ensuring timely execution and monitoring.
  • Oversee lab-initiated programs (e.g., file samples, chemical waste management, stability programs).
  • Assess program progress and recommend enhancements for continuous improvement.
  • Equipment & Instrumentation Management

  • Ensure lab instruments are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Assign instrument ownership, ensure personnel are trained for routine maintenance, and liaise with vendors as needed.
  • Ad-hoc Assignments

  • Perform other functions and assignments as required, maintaining a professional approach in all tasks.
  • Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skillsets

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, or a related scientific field (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a laboratory environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of laboratory equipment, analytical methods, and laboratory systems.
  • Solid understanding of quality systems, laboratory standards, and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in handling laboratory investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations and laboratory safety practices.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring regulatory compliance.
