Job description

Description

GAI Consultants is seeking an Environmental Manager to work out of one of our three main Indiana offices located in Fishers, Fort Wayne, or Indianapolis. You will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of environmental studies, wetland delineations, permitting (NEPA, CEs, EAs, Construction in a Floodway, Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) 401, United States Army Corps 404, IDEM Rule 5, etc.) and mitigation plans and monitoring, and Section 106 regulations. Our clients include the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), counties, cities, towns, and utility companies across Indiana.

Job Duties :

  • Provide project experience with environmental permitting (local, state, and federal) and compliance support for key segments of the infrastructure industry.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary work teams and overall task management of field efforts for erosion control monitoring, wetland and stream delineations, and endangered species surveys and monitoring.
  • Oversee the completion and management of the preparation of permit applications and associated environmental reporting.
  • Prepare scope and fee proposals.
  • Conduct quality control reviews.
  • Control expenditures within limitations of project / task budget and monitor budget status.
  • Interface with customers as necessary to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Manage sub-consultants as required.
  • Provide regular status and progress reports to the project manager and / or client.
  • Experience in team leadership, staff mentoring, and project management
  • Mentor and direct junior environmental staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical understanding of natural resources and field assessment methodologies.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with INDOT Consultant Performance Evaluation criteria for Environmental Documents and NEPA-related Performance types.
  • Experience with environmental permitting / consultations and regulatory agencies in Indiana and / or neighboring states.
  • Completion or the ability to obtain within 6 months the following :
  • NEPA Initial Training and Categorical Exclusion Training with INDOT Section 7 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA)
  • Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
  • Section 106 / Section 4(f)

  • Well-rounded with aspects of consulting, industry standards, and Company protocols. Position requires a commitment a strong emphasis on client development; participation in professional societies and industry associations is preferred.

  • Technical Responsibilities

  • Capable of managing project tasks.
  • Serves as a Project Manager on small to midsize projects.
  • Management Responsibility

  • Initiates and manages client relationships; provide oversight and responsible for reviewing and approving all scopes; budgets; and schedules for all tasks of the overall projects; works with Task Managers to complete their assigned tasks; maintaining GAI's procedures and protocols; responsible for all aspects of financials on projects.
  • Serves as the leader of the environmental scope of project; receives administrative support and direction from Business Sector Leaders and higher-level officials of the Company.
  • Continues to manage staff with diverse skills and has a focus on supporting career path and technical growth.
  • Monitoring employee performance.
  • Making sure that processes and procedures are in compliance with the overall organization's guidelines.
