Summary
We are seeking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with strong expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to join our research team in the Departments of Ophthalmology, Cell & Developmental Biology, University of Michigan. Our research encompasses a wide range of topics, including computation biology/bioinformatics, glial biology, neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. Current lab research projects include, but not limited to, these related areas: Regeneration of retinal neurons from Muller glial cells; Injury signaling, inflammatory responses and neuroprotective roles of Muller glia and microglia in retinal injury and degeneration; Reprograming astrocytes to neurons as a cell-based therapy for neurodegenerative diseases and brain injuries. Postdocs in our lab will have freedom to choose innovative and exciting projects while, at the same time, develop their own independent research careers. More information about the lab is at
Responsibilities*
The successful candidate will work with a dynamic and multidisciplinary research team. Responsibilities include:
Conceive and lead research projects
Develop standardized analysis pipelines for sequencing data, such as RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq data and epigenetics, and gene regulatory network.
Be involved in manuscripts/reports preparation.
Work closely with other team members and train new members
Required Qualifications*
PhD in Bioinformatics/Statistics
Strong experience in coding languages, such as R and Python
Willingness to learn new methods and pipeline development by interacting with others
Willingness to help train others
Ability to read literature and learn vision science
Desired Qualifications*
3-5 years of bioinformatics experience is desired. Direct experience with multiomic analysis is highly preferred, including transcriptomic, epigenomic, and proteomic analysis
The candidate should have experience with biological questions and systems, ideally with exposure or
prior collaborations with biomedical scientists in any discipline.
Experience with vision science directly is desired but not required.
Candidates should also possess excellent communication and teamwork skills.
