About Your Opportunity
The primary responsibility of the Field Trainer is to provide instruction and advocacy of Wohlsen's best practices for project superintendents, assistant superintendents, and field engineers across all regions. This role is designed to drive engagement and assist in the continuous improvement of these teammates.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver training on best practices related to safety, schedule, planning, execution, and completion of our projects.
- Provide "just-in-time" delivery of training, matching the topics to the individual's immediate need. Priority given to in-person, collaborative, small-group training on state-of-the-art construction methods and materials.
- Develop the standard baseline training required of all field engineers, assistant superintendents, and superintendents. Monitor our teammates' progress toward satisfying these requirements.
- Serve as a ready resource for project teams to confer with regarding various trade activities, quality management, and overall efficiency.
- Acquire a complete understanding of our superintendents', assistant superintendents', and field engineers' experience and expertise. Use this knowledge to connect our teammates to bolster less experienced personnel.
- Collaborate with Project Executives to develop a mentorship program for our field engineers and assistant superintendents, connecting more experienced superintendents (III) with our next generation of field leaders.
- Train and coach field teams on Lean practices, QA / QC, technology, and safety.
- Mentor and train field engineers and assistant superintendents for their growth and career development.
- Coach self-perform foremen and superintendents on Lean practices including (but not limited to) pull planning, daily huddles, identification / elimination of waste, 5S, Plan-Do-Check-Act, and visual management techniques.
- Help set up projects for Lean or work with existing projects to start using Lean tactics.
- Work with projects to set up and utilize weekly work planning boards and logistic plans. Mediate pull planning sessions.
- Conduct job site Gemba walks to survey project operations and input observations into Procore.
- Foster positive subcontractor relations and ensure respectful treatment of workforce and trade partners.
- Conduct safety inspections and input Observations into Procore.
- Conduct regular one-on-one sessions with Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and partners.
- B.S. degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, or other related discipline and 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in construction supervision with contract values of $10-15 million and up.
- Lean Construction Institute certification preferred.
- Experience in multiple disciplines including project management, estimating, preconstruction services, and construction management.
- OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR.
- Ability to travel and work additional hours when needed to meet business plan goals.
- Have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to job sites, clients' offices, and other locations for meetings, inspections, etc.
- 5 years' experience leading a project team of mixed levels of experience and capability
- Extensive knowledge of construction planning, and scheduling
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and other contract documents
- Exceptional management and leadership skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software systems, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with CMiC, Procore, Oracle Primavera Cloud and Bridgit Bench
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively in English with clients, contractors, vendors, employees, etc.
- Reports to the Vice President of Construction Quality Control

Physical Requirements
In a normal day, this position requires little to no standing or walking. In a normal day, the employee must be able to sit for 7+ hours. In a normal day, the employee must be able to drive 1-4 hours. Employee must be able to lift / carry up to 10 lbs. maximum; occasionally carry small objects. In this position, employee occasionally (0-33%) must be able to bend at waist, squat the knees, climb (including ladders), reach above shoulders, kneel, crawl, use feet (foot controls), and / or work at heights above 6 feet.
