New York Magazine seeks a designer to join its Art Department.

Every two weeks, our small team designs the ASME-award-winning print magazine covering highbrow-brilliant to lowbrow-despicable & everything in between, from pop culture to food to news to fashion.

The ideal candidate has a love of magazine making in a fast-paced environment, using all the tools in the tool box : typography & complex page design; explanation charts & graphics; DIY collage making & illustration commission. And, of course, a love of the city.

WHAT YOULL DO

• Work on the art department team making page layouts for the biweekly print edition of New York magazine.
• Layout & traffic & close pages, working closely with editortal, photo, copy, & production teams.
• Responsibilities include, laying out the Intelligencer section, featuring opinion columns, & late-breaking news packages.
• Collaborate with the design director & art team to come up with clever visual solutions for feature articles & special sections, creating mood boards of art reference & artists for consideration.
• Work closely with design leads on layouts for Strategist & Culture Pages.
• Opportunity to work on features, packages, & other editorial or digital projects based on experience level.
• Be flexible to changing workflows & timelines - your typical schedule may vary during magazine close
