Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
To help students learn subject matter and skills which will contribute to their education and development. Responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction in both an online and face-to-face environment, based upon specific goals and objectives established by Hanover County Public Schools and Virginia Standards of Learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

- Demonstrates mastery of both content area and online instructional practices;
- Prepares daily instruction and activities using the division's curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors;
- Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group / individual needs;
- Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement;
- Develops and maintains a favorable psychological and physical environment that is conducive to effective learning;
- Maintains order and academic integrity and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of behavior, both within the classroom setting as well as online, in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management.
- Selects and utilizes materials appropriate to the students' instructional levels;
- Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts;
- Resolves technical problems and facilitates repairs; reschedules computer / classroom time as necessary.
- Attends and participates in district level in-service training programs, faculty and department meetings;
- Establishes cooperative and effective relationships between the home and the school;
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others;
- Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence;
- Respects the home responsibility of parents for their children;
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
- Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division's policies and practices.

Must hold or be eligible for Va. Teacher License w / endorsement in applicable subject area
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Should demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and ability of instructional technology in a school environment, principles and methods of educational research; the primary concepts and structures of effective online instruction which help students and teachers transfer knowledge most effectively in the online environment; competency with a wide range of technologies, both existing and emerging, that effectively support student learning and engagement in the online environment. Should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the use of a variety of instructional approaches, resources and technology to address student's diverse academic needs; Demonstrated ability to create learning experiences to enable student success through the planning, and design of courses, incorporating strategies to encourage active learning, application of knowledge, as well as through interaction, participation, and collaboration in the online environment. Should demonstrate the ability to promote student success through clear expectations, prompt responses, and regular feedback while modeling, guiding, and encouraging legal, ethical, and safe behavior related to technology use; Should demonstrate competency in using data from assessments and other data sources to modify content and to guide student learning in ways that ensure validity and reliability of the instruments and procedures; develop and deliver assessments, projects, and assignments that meet standards-based learning goals. Demonstrated ability to interact in a professional, effective manner with colleagues, parents, and other members of the community to support students' success; Excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to supervise and guide the work of Instructional Assistants.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Required : Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Must hold or be eligible for Va. Teacher License w / endorsement in the applicable subject area.
Preferred : Master's Degree or Post-graduate certificate from accredited institution specializing in online instruction and / or instructional technology; and / or experience teaching in a fully online or blended learning environment

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, students and the public through the use of the internet, telephone, and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Face-to-face work is typically performed in a school setting including; classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Online work is typically performed on a personal computer via the internet in a school and / or other setting. Frequent walking, standing, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be required. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. May involve repetitive motions and long periods or sitting at a desk or computer. Consistent and regular attendance is essential in this position.
