ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
Riverside County Regional Park and Open Space District is seeking a Park Ranger Supervisor to join the team.
The Park Ranger Supervisor will play a crucial role in overseeing the operations and management of Lake Cahuilla, a 710-acre park with a variety of amenities, including, but not limited to trailer / RV campsites, a fishing lake, horseback trails, a beachfront style pool, and playgrounds. The Park Ranger Supervisor will manage the budget and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), supervise Park Rangers and other staff, including volunteers and work release workers, monitor and patrol the park, and collaborate with public agencies and service providers to implement effective solutions while communicating progress toward program goals.
Competitive candidates will have experience working in a park or open-space environment and demonstrate strong leadership skills in customer service and conflict resolution. They should be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and point-of-sale (POS) systems. Knowledge of centralized maintenance software systems and a valid Aquatic Facility Operator Certification (AFO) is highly desirable.
The Park Maintenance Supervisor - Parks is a supervisory level classification and reports to an Area Park Manager. Incumbents are assigned to a County park area which has intensive maintenance needs due to having numerous recreational and camping facilities, heavy public use, and extensive development.
Work Schedule : This position follows a 5 / 40 schedule, Tuesday through Saturday, from 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime will be required to support special events and to meet departmental operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
AND
Experience : Two years of working in the operations, maintenance, development, or protection of a park, forest, public recreational, or historical area, which included planning and conducting recreational and educational activities, and enforcing laws and ordinances.
OPTION II
Experience : Six years of working in the operations, maintenance, development, or protection of a park, forest, or public recreational or historical area, which included planning and conducting recreational and educational activities, and enforcing laws and ordinances.
(College level courses from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to four years of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience.)
ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of : Principles of supervision; park policies and procedures; principles and practices of natural resources conservation, park management, and general law enforcement; principles and practices of first aid and safety; methods and materials used in park interpretive programs; public relations practices; state and County laws and ordinances.
Ability to : Supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates; read, interpret, and enforce appropriate laws and regulations in accordance with County policy; maintain records and prepare clear, complete, and concise reports; speak and write effectively; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public and other employees.
License / Certificate :
Essential Physical abilities : Independent body mobility to stand and move up to eight hours daily, perform lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling, for example habitat restoration, fence repairs, and removing debris left behind from encampments.
Physical Exposure : The Park Ranger Supervisor - Parks position requires frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions (cold, rain etc.) and excessive heat with temperatures reaching 120 degrees. May interact or see / come across wildlife (plants, animals and exposure to animal smells).

DEFERRED COMPENSATION : Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual) :
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE : Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS : Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE : Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE : Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY :
Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave Benefits. The wage replacement rate is determined by current law, offering 60-70% of the wages earned during the SDI eligibility period.
Additionally, employees receive employer-paid Long-Term Disability Benefits, which cover 66.67% of pre-disability earnings, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month. There is a 365-day waiting period before these benefits become active. Employees may coordinate these benefits with other available leave balances to receive up to 100% of their regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION : A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
