- Running a small gallery / publishing firm located in Point Loma and owned by an artist, now living in Hawaii
- Serving customers who come into the gallery
- Office correspondence and clerical work
- Working on forthcoming art books and revised website
- Preparing submissions (applications to exhibit) to art galleries, museums, and juried exhibitions all over the country
- Tracking and recording all existing and new artworks
- Handling and filing governmental and insurance forms, sales records, and invoices
- Overseeing sales records and billing to local retailers
- Routinely speaking with and writing to galleries around the country, in an attempt to place artworks with these galleries
- Maintaining gallery and storeroom in good condition and well-organized state
- Assisting sales representative to place cards and artworks with local retailers
- Weekly following a task list prepared by gallery owner and updating him on progress
- Receiving and paying all bills sent to the gallery
- Taking artworks to be photographed and framed, at firms used for these purposes
- Routinely communicating with the manager and with the owner, via phone, fax, and email
- Assisting sales representative as needed
Qualifications :
Require : sales experience; clerical skills; close attention to detail; outgoing, upbeat, with professional demeanor, self-reliance, and integrity; strong work ethic, ability to work alone; must have own vehicle.
About the employer : Simpler Gifts Press and the Bro Halff Gallery, local art book / card publisher and gallery, established in 1983, owned by an artist, now residing in Hawaii; gallery places art in juried exhibits throughout the U.S., and places art books and cards with local San Diego retailers; 2 part-time employees, including the advertised position and the sales director; full-time manager working in Hawaii.
Hours per week : normally 10-20; occasionally more requested.
Hourly wage : $25 / hr. + allowance for vehicle use / gas ($45 / week).
