Join our team! The City of Kentwood is seeking applicants for Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Assistants in the Department of Public Works.
Pay and Benefits
The starting pay rate for this position is $16.00 / hr. Returning employees receive a $1.00 increase for each year they return, maximum $18.00 / hr. Seasonal employees of the Department of Public Works can receive useful perks through the City of Kentwood. These team members are eligible for comprehensive on-the-job training to help them advance in their role with DPW and excel in their positions. They are also eligible for a steel toe boot reimbursement and are supplied with ample personal protective equipment to complete projects effectively and safely. Additionally, all employees receive a discount on city recreation programs and rentals. Employees also enjoy free access to a fitness room.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, main responsibilities for this role include performing a variety of manual tasks related to the maintenance of City parks, buildings and other facilities within the field operations unit of the Public Works Department.
Our ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and a valid Michigan driver's license. Previous experience with outdoor equipment is preferred. Please view the full job description and requirements for more details.
About the Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works keeps the City of Kentwood beautiful and functional with a team of nearly 40 full- and part-time employees. The department has five divisions that work together to maintain the City's infrastructure, which includes more than 150 miles of pipes underground and more than 155 miles of streets above ground, as well as the City parks and grounds, buildings and fleet of vehicles. DPW takes care of everything from snow plowing and street cleaning to parks maintenance and police cruisers. The five divisions are building maintenance, fleet services, grounds maintenance, streets maintenance and utilities (water and wastewater) services.
