Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Watson College of Education seeks to fill a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer faculty position in Special Education within the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy, and Special Education to begin August 2025.
Responsibilities include teaching four courses per semester in the Special Education program inclusive of supervision of field experience students and Interns, in the undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Special Education program prepares special educators to teach individuals with disabilities from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Throughout the program, intentional connections are made between course content and field-based experiences. Students have opportunities to participate in traditional coursework as well as extensive school-based experiences across educational settings.
The ideal candidate has special education teaching experience as well as deep knowledge of learners with disabilities, evidence-based teaching practices, and the provision of special education services in school settings. Areas of anticipated teaching opportunities include Introduction to Special Education, Field Experience Supervision, Internship Supervision, and other courses in Special Education.
The ideal candidate will be able to :
- Teach special education courses to undergraduate and graduate students via various delivery modes including face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
- Demonstrate competency (or potential for) in teacher education and / or teacher preparation, coaching, and mentoring.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the program, department, and university, including laboratory school settings and / or other field-based sites in the Wilmington region.
- Provide leadership and service to the profession, university, college, department, community, and local public schools.
