Job description

Staff Accountant

Location / Schedule : Crossnore, North Carolina, in-person. Work hours are generally 8 : 30 am to 5 : 00pm, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility. Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Availability to travel to campuses and throughout regions occasionally for necessary meetings.

Education / Experience / Licensure :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • 3+ years Accounting / Finance experience, including payroll processing, recording of cash receipts, general ledger entries, and account reconciliation required.
  • Experience with medical billing, contracts, and financial statements preferred.
  • Experience in not for profit accounting principles strongly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Skills and Competencies :

    To thrive as a Staff Accountant, you’ll need :

  • Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and FASB.
  • Advanced skills in HRIS payroll systems, Excel, and Google Sheets.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and data analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide feedback and coaching.
  • Talent for project management, organization, and multitasking.
  • Dedication to confidentiality and ethical decision-making.
  • Aptitude for working independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a growth mindset to learn new accounting practices.
  • Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel to agency locations.
  • Key Responsibilities :

    As a Staff Accountant , you will :

  • Payroll Processing : Manage and execute payroll functions for the agency, aligning processes with the HRIS system.
  • Revenue and Receivables : Process cash receipts and record revenue / receivables under the direction of senior finance leadership.
  • General Ledger Management : Record approved journal entries, perform account analysis, and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Financial Reporting : Assist in preparing financial reports, including financial statements, budget performance, and interim reporting.
  • Tax Filings : Prepare quarterly and annual tax filings, W2s, and 1099s.
  • Month-End Procedures : Perform month-end closing tasks as determined by senior finance leaders.
  • Training and Orientation : Provide time reporting orientation and training for new hires.
  • 401K and Benefits : Process 401K contributions, profit sharing, and payroll deductions for benefits.
  • Audit Preparation : Assist in audit preparations and compliance activities.
  • Data Analysis : Research historical financial data and prepare necessary reports.
  • Communication and Collaboration : Work closely with program areas and team members to implement efficient accounting practices.
  • Confidentiality and Judgment : Exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards in all tasks.
