Join a company that is passionately committed to the pursuit of a better world through positive change. With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. With practical solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable, we think globally while acting locally. Are you looking for an opportunity to join a diverse group of professionals who are committed to remaining exceptional? We look forward to hearing from you.

Our expertise in infrastructure includes aviation, highways and bridges, planning and advisory services, ports, rail and transit, tunnels, and water. Want to be part of the creation and construction of our cities? Then the infrastructure team is for you!

Join our Ports & Terminals Group to support engineering, design, and planning initiatives for major container terminals, bulk and break-bulk facilities, offshore wind support facilities, cruise terminals, and other port assets. You will participate in multidisciplinary teams responsible for developing and delivering marine structural designs, inspections, rehabilitations, resilience measures, studies, and advanced structural analyses for a wide variety of marine waterfront or nearshore projects. This role involves close collaboration with other engineers and planners and participation across multiple project teams.

As an employee with Hatch, you will work alongside industry experts, contribute to high-impact client projects, and grow within an organization committed to innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

Serve as Project Engineer, Package Coordinator, or Manager on a variety of engagements, overseeing technical teams, workstreams, deliverables, budgets, client interactions, and issue resolution within Hatch’s project governance framework.
Apply sound engineering principles to deliver efficient and cost-effective solutions in complex, multivariable, and multidisciplinary environments.
Conduct marine structural engineering and design efforts in alignment with established standards, quality objectives, and client needs.
Collect, analyze, and interpret engineering, planning, and operational data to support project objectives.
Prepare and review drawings, RFIs, permit applications, technical specifications, basis of design reports, structural analysis models, reports, technical memoranda, presentations, schedules, maps, figures, and diagrams.
Perform site visits, structural inspections, condition assessments, and construction support activities as required.
Lead and contribute to proposals, proposal interview materials, and other business development materials.
Build client relationships, promote Hatch’s services, and identify new business opportunities.
Support staff development, management, and recruitment activities including active mentorship and development of graduates in technical fields of port and marine competencies.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering; master’s degree preferred in the field of ports, marine and/or coastal engineering.
8+ years’ experience in detailed design of port and/or marine structures, including detailed structural analysis and design for reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, structural steel, timber, and specialized waterfront materials according to US practice codes and standards, including ASCE, ACI, PIANC, etc.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 1–2 years (California PE strongly preferred).
General understanding of port planning precepts through working with market forecasts, environmental and social constraints, and navigation safety requirements within the port operational environment.
Proven ability to execute and collaborate across multiple concurrent projects in various geographies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information, including technical details, clearly and effectively.
An entrepreneurial “can do” mindset with the ability to work under real-world constraints.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP2000, OPTIMOOR and familiarity with AutoCAD and Staad Pro.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for short site visits, client meetings, and project workshops as required.

Preferred experience in:
Metocean data acquisition, statistical assessment, numerical wave transformation modeling, and application of these on structural design.
A programming language (e.g., MATLAB or Python).
Advanced finite element software (e.g., Abaqus).

Salary Range: $130,000 - $149,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
