They can work year-round or seasonally in designated national parks and wildlife conservatories, carrying out different roles and responsibilities related to park management. Park Ranger positions can have many separate functions, with some working specifically on protection or conservation. All Park Rangers work towards the same goal of maintaining their parks to the highest degree.  
  
Many parks that hire Park Rangers are protected on a national level, meaning that the government arranges hires for professionals in this field. There are a variety of roles that Park Rangers are employed to fulfill. For example, some Park Rangers work specifically for translation and tourism purposes, while others are biologists that aim to protect the ecosystem and wildlife.   
  
Park Rangers can work on a yearly or seasonal basis, depending on what their role is. Additionally, Park Rangers can be internships and summer positions for those aspiring to work as a Park Ranger full time.   

Roles & Responsibilities for a  Park Ranger

  • Protecting the environment, including the ecosystem and wildlife that co-exist within the parks  
  • Ensuring that all visitors practice appropriate behavior when in the park, which can also include performing law enforcement duties  
  • Educating visitors about any questions that they may have; in some cases, this can require Park Rangers to speak multiple languages  
  • Developing programs such as guided walks and demonstrations for park visitors  
  • Working on special projects to protect the park and support park goals  
  • Participating in the appropriate field training or other training as the role indicates  
  • Obtaining specific licenses and certificates such as first aid, CPR, driver's license, and any other requirements necessary for the particular location  
  • Promoting the safety of the visitors, ecosystem, and wildlife in the park  
  • Taking part in search and rescue missions when underway and providing medical assistance  
  • Patrolling park grounds by foot, vehicle, boat, horseback, or more  
  • Writing reports on incidents or the current status of the park  
  • Performing traffic control and other consequential duties
