Industrial Engineers make it their priority to use their outstanding amount of imagination and inventiveness to design new production mechanisms that increase the efficiency and profitability of manufacturing processes. They spend their days making sure all products or services meet varying quality standards.   
Not only that, but Industrial Engineers also work over a series of days, weeks, and months participating in the entire life cycle of the new systems and products they help to improve and develop. Overall, they find ways to eliminate wastefulness in production processes. It involves critical inspection and focus on how to get the work done most efficiently, balancing many factors, such as time, the number of workers needed, available technology, actions workers need to take, achieving the product with no errors, workers' safety, environmental concerns, and cost.   
The process starts with client meetings and management teams to ascertain the pain points the client or company is experiencing, depending on the client. This process involves careful inspection of the company's current operational strategy. From here, Industrial Engineers will develop a design that meets the client's needs and establishes the project's planning, safety standards, and more.  
Industrial Engineers are known for devising efficient systems that integrate workers, machines, materials, information, and energy to make a product or provide a service. Roles and responsibilities of an Industrial Engineer
Here’s a non-exhaustive list of everyday tasks Industrial Engineers are required to complete: 
  • Research ways to improve and optimize the use of workers, resources, and machines.  
  • Study and review various manufacturing processes.  
  • Identify potential health hazards and life-threatening situations in plants and other facilities to establish safety procedures and standards.  
  • Analyze production costs.  
  • Establish the skills and knowledge needed to operate specialized machinery and technology to create a profile and a training system for new employees.  
  • Conduct regular evaluations of industrial plants and facilities operations.  
  • Evaluate existing industrial plants and facilities to implement possible improvements.  
  • Design new ways to increase the efficiency of the production of goods and services regarding time, effort, and profitability.  
  • Evaluate how to accelerate the production process while maintaining the same quality standards.   
  • Conduct quality control evaluations to prevent unnecessary expenses and improve cost-effectiveness.  
  • Devise new and efficient ways to manufacture goods by implementing the latest technologies and scientific advances.  
  • Apply mathematical methods and formulas to design different systems (e.g., manufacturing and information systems) to meet their client’s requirements.  
  • Liaise with their colleagues and supervise their work.  
  • Train Assemblers, Quality Control Assistants, and Technicians, as necessary, on processes, equipment, and documentation.  
  • Acquire quotes, source vendors, and manage the implementation of new projects.
