Flight Attendants are, in many ways, the faces of airlines. They take care of passengers, tending to their needs, comfort, and safety during a flight.

The primary duty of a Flight Attendant is to ensure passenger safety during flights by adhering to safety regulations. Flight Attendants are available to help passengers with their needs and explain the aircraft's safety procedures. Other tasks include serving in-flight meals and refreshments to passengers, but their primary responsibility is to ensure everyone's safety on board. Experience in a secondary language is very beneficial for Flight Attendants as they will often work with and cross paths with people from all over the world.

Commercial Airlines employ Flight Attendants, although there is a market for private flight attendants (e.g., private charter planes or jets). Depending on the aircraft's size, international safety regulations require a certain number of Flight Attendants to board the aircraft. The standard rule is that there should be one Flight Attendant per 50 passengers.

Personality of a Flight Attendant
  • Compassionate
Flight Attendants must be compassionate when interacting with the passengers on their plane as someone who can represent an airline or a nation. Flight Attendants should be easy to approach and provide passengers with an extra sense of security. They should make all passengers feel welcome.

  • They are team player's
Flight Attendants will always work as a crew, be it with other Flight Attendants or the pilots themselves. A larger aircraft will employ more Flight Attendants, but no matter the crew size, they should work collaboratively to ensure that the time spent onboard is as safe and comfortable as possible for all parties.

  • They are curious
Flight Attendants have the opportunity to travel the world with their work, so it makes sense that they are curious by nature. Many Flight Attendants will learn more than one language, and they will work alongside travelers from all over the globe. Being curious is a common characteristic of Flight Attendants.

  • They are calm
Maintaining professionalism while on the job is a crucial trait for Flight Attendants, but they must also stay calm and collected from take-off to landing. There could be turbulence or other worries during air travel, so the individuals responsible for ensuring safety on board must make all passengers feel comfortable.
