Summer Camp Counselors work as part of the staff operating summer camps. They coordinate, conduct, and supervise all recreational activities for children and teens. They are responsible for the well-being and safety of campers and for creating a safe, fun, and rewarding environment.

Some summer camps have unique themes (e.g., drama camps, space camps, or sports camps). Depending on the theme, the type of activities assigned to the Summer Camp Counselor will vary. For example, a Counselor at a sports camp may be responsible for leading the campers in physical activities and games, while someone at a space camp may be responsible for teaching the campers about astronomy and related topics.

In addition to their regular duties, Summer Camp Counselors are also responsible for maintaining order and discipline among the campers. Why is this important? Because it helps to ensure that all participants are safe and that everyone can enjoy their time at camp. It is their job to tend to the individual needs of each camper, as well as to create activities that promote social interaction between campers.

Summer Camp Counselors typically work during the summer months, although some camps may operate year-round. Some Counselors may also work part-time or on a contractual basis.
