Position Summary
Under direct supervision, the position is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment within the memory care unit, including resident rooms/apartments, common areas, offices and other areas as assigned. This generally includes but is not limited to tasks like vacuuming, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and sanitizing surfaces. As with all team members who work within the memory care, key focus areas are maintaining a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment for residents and their family members.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform all housekeeping service-related tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow employees, residents, and family members.
- Perform basic cleaning functions within the memory care following established schedules and using prescribed methods.
- Dusts horizontal surfaces in resident rooms/apartments, as well as common areas.
- Empties wastebaskets, removes waste, clean and relines basket.
- Cleans all furniture within the memory care.
- Cleans and polishes metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms. In addition, polishes other metal surfaces within assigned area.
- As applicable, mops and sanitizes floors of rooms and common areas (e.g. dining room).
- Spot cleans walls and windows.
- Replenishes applicable resident room supplies.
- Performs "check-out" and/or cycle cleaning as assigned.
- Vacuums carpets: spot cleans as needed.
- Transports soiled linen to central collection point in accordance with infection control standards.
- Measure and mix cleaning chemicals in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform deep clean of resident apartments, common and office areas, as scheduled and directed.
- Maintain a clutter-free environment to promote safety.
- Engage residents in informal socialization opportunities in an effort to maintain a friendly/welcoming environment.
- Report any/all observations/feedback that may assist in providing person-centered care to residents to the clinical staff on duty.
- Participate in the resident care/service planning process as needed/directed.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions on safety, dementia care practices, and other relevant topics.
- Other duties as assigned based on scope of responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) years of relevant (HSKP, Janitor, EVS) experience in a skilled nursing facility or retirement community.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
- Understanding of proper cleaning techniques and chemical safety.
- After initial training, demonstrate ability to utilize supplies, tools and equipment properly.
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
- Sensitivity and understanding of the issues related to aging.
- Demonstrates proficiency in clear and effective communication, both verbal and written, coupled with a strong ability to comprehend and execute instructions accurately in various formats.
- Must demonstrate excellent skills in reading writing, speaking and understanding the English language. Other languages a plus.
