Description :

Plans, organizes, and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Supervises the work of support personnel.

Evaluates the patient upon initial encounter to assess impairment and current condition to estimate rehabilitation potential.

Plans physical therapy treatment programs for each patient, based on the assessment, including training in functional mobility, use of assistive devices, therapeutic exercise, balance and coordination retraining, massage, heat, and cryotherapy.

Applies diagnostic and progressive muscle, nerve, joint, and functional ability tests.

Directs and aids the patient in the therapeutic regimen.

Delegates routine care to supportive personnel as appropriate.

Acts in a supervisory role to ensure proper execution of tasks.

Provides the necessary documentation for billing purposes.

Adapts conventional physical therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises.

Evaluates, records, and reports on patient progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team.

Communicates effectively with physicians, other members of the rehabilitation team, and others as indicated regarding treatment plans and patient responses to plans.

Counsels patients and families according to the degree of disability or impairment.

Completes all required documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner.

Conducts physical therapy assessments for pre-employment requirements.

Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Attends meetings and in-service sessions as directed.

Requires regular attendance and punctuality.

Performs other duties as assigned.

This position does not oversee other positions.
