Peninsula Youth Theatre (PYT), one of the largest arts nonprofits in Silicon Valley, provides outstanding theatrical learning opportunities to young people, either through participating or viewing a production. A resident company at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, PYT produces four musical productions each season and a series of seven black-box adaptations of children's stories. PYT's extensive educational programs include the "School Play in a Box" program, which reaches 30-40 schools each year, onsite classes and 30-40 "Theatre in the Park" summer camps.
PYT seeks a mission-driven and responsive Managing Director to help lead the organization. Reporting to the Executive Artistic Director, the Managing Director will be based at the organization's offices in Mountain View, CA, and have overall management responsibility for growing an impactful organization with a $1 million+ annual budget, 6 regular and 60+ seasonal employees. PYT offers a hybrid work environment, and much of the Managing Director's role can be performed remotely.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This full-time exempt position is for immediate hire, with an ideal start date in early 2026. This impactful leadership position is responsible for overseeing the administration, fund development, and human resources of the organization. The position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader who is passionate about leading hands-on operations, fostering growth, and working as part of a team committed to the performing arts.
Organizational Leadership & Management
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations
Perform general management duties ensuring the successful operations of the organization
Provide leadership in developing organizational and financial plans and execute on the policies authorized by the Board
Plan, actively manage, and oversee the organization's human resources, fundraising, and operations while ensuring the organization's financial sustainability
Contribute to the strategic plan and drive its implementation
Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyze and support strategic decision-making
Board Relations & Governance
Oversee and report on the organization's results for Board of Directors
Drive development in collaboration with the Board
Attend all Board meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project and organizational progress
Communicate effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continue functioning properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner
Actively engage in complex fiscal management through hands-on budgetary development and oversight; routinely report performance and financial activities to the Board
Plan, actively manage, and oversee the organization's human resources, fundraising, and operations while ensuring the organization's financial sustainability
Human Resources & Staff Supervision
Manage the human resources functions of the company, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, overseeing processes such as hiring, separation, ongoing staff development, performance management, and compensation and benefits
Supervise non-production staff and contractors
Collaborate with the Executive Artistic Director to ensure appropriate funding and support for PYT programs
Assure that the organization makes consistent and timely progress in achieving its mission and target programmatic impact
Community & External Relations
Effectively represent the organization with stakeholders, local government and the community.
Promote a positive organizational image to ensure adequate community representation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this role enjoys collaboration and working in a team environment. Qualified candidates will have :
Prior managerial experience as a successful leader of a nonprofit organization and / or organization in a related field
Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree
A proven track record of growing organizational capacity and programmatic impact
Proven abilities and experience in fiscal management
Success working with individual, foundation and corporate donors and securing funding from the same
Outstanding communication skills and ability to work well with media, staff, local government and the community
Experience in creating and establishing clear, measurable business and financial goals
A strong passion for the performing arts
COMPENSATION
$65,000 - $70,000 per year plus full Kaiser benefits and matching contributions to a Simple IRA retirement plan.
