JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences):

PRIMARYJOB FUNCTIONS: List, inthe order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional dutiesby management as required.

Job Responsibility 1:

Provides direct instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum for students who are blind or visually impaired, including Braille and Nemeth Code, low vision devices, technology, career readiness, daily living skills, compensatory skills, self-determination skills, and orientation and mobility skills.

Job Responsibility 2:

Conducts functional vision assessments, produce and adapt a variety of instructional materials into appropriate media using specialized technology such as a Braille writer, computer software or other related equipment.

Job Responsibility 3:

Develops and implements compliant IEPs, provide assistance to support teachers and staff working with students who are blind and visually impaired, and manage a caseload of diverse learners from ages 3 to 22, including students who may have additional disabilities.

GENERALRESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS, AND IMPACTS

COMPLEXITY OFWORK : “ Complexityof Work” addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, andconcentration required by the position and the presence of any unusualpressures.

Performsskilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem solving;requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurateresults and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

IMPACT OFDECISIONS : “ Impact of Decisions” refers toconsequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure ofthe organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS : “ EducationRequirements” refers to job specific training and education required for entryinto the position.

Bachelor’s degree in applicablefield.

LICENSES,CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : “ Licenses,Certifications, and Registrations” refers to professional, state, or federallicenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.

Current certification/licensurethrough the Tennessee Department of Education in Visual Impairments. Additionalcertification in Orientation and Mobility is preferred.

EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS : “ ExperienceRequirements” refers to the amount of work experience that is required forentry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that theperson can perform the tasks required by the position.

Knowledge of and experiencewith Braille (including Nemeth Code), Low Vision Devices, FunctionalVision/Learning Media Assessments and Expanded Core CurriculumScreenings/Assessments are required.
