Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med / Surg RN with at least 18 months of relevant experience and Cerner or Epic EMR proficiency for a hospital-based role in Montgomery, AL.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital setting on Medical / Surgical units with options including trauma surgical, neuroscience, oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, med / surg / ortho, and urology
  • Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, urology, and med / surg
  • Unit assignments may include care for trauma, post-surgical, stroke, cardiac, respiratory, and oncology patients
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1 : 5 to 1 : 6 depending on the unit
  • RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours; telemetry techs provide continuous monitoring
  • Cerner EMR is preferred; Epic experience is also accepted
  • 12-hour shifts available for both days (7a-7p) and nights (7p-7a)
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend or four weekend days per month
  • Floating may occur to like units or patient locations within the hospital
  • No on-call requirements
  • RNs will be assigned a primary unit on the first day of orientation but may float as needed
  • 24 hours of classroom and 24 hours of unit orientation provided for new or returning travelers after 1+ years away
  • Support available from CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, hospitalist, and HUC
  • One major and one minor seasonal holiday may be required per policy
  • Certain blackout dates apply for requests for time off
  • Scrub uniforms of any color are allowed
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must live outside a 60-mile radius of the facility

    • Requirements

  • Active AL or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent Med / Surg and / or ICU experience
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required (Cerner required if only ICU experience)
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • At least one year of experience in trauma or surgical nursing for surgical / trauma units
  • Experience in wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration and documentation preferred
  • Must be able to interpret and document telemetry strips every 4 hours
  • Returning employees must have been separated for at least 6 months since last shift to be eligible
