MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Job Purpose : Under general supervision, the Certified Medical Assistant will provide outstanding care in service to patients and physicians. The CMA must be able to assist the Physician with patient flow in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

JOB FUNCTIONS :

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Obtain, review and document patient medical history and record vital signs in EMR.
• Prepare patients for examination and assist the physician during the examination.
• Provide patient with accurate information, instruction, and education as it pertains to their medical visits and treatment procedures.
• Administer medications as directed by physician.
• As directed by physician, process pharmacy requests.
• Pre-certify patients for treatment.
• Pull all orders (including telephone) and ensure that there are no patient "open orders".
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for processing.
• Proactively follow up with patient labs (i.e., biopsy, cysto's, u / a, blood work, etc.) and patient records in a timely manner.
• Ensure patient is scheduled with correct provider.
• Remove stents, sutures, etc. as directed by physician.
• Prepare examination rooms by maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness of the rooms, as well as arranging the instruments and equipment.
• Perform venipuncture on assigned patients with accuracy and care (not applicable in Peds).
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and OSHA standards of care.
• Maintain positive and respectful dialogue at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands : This position requires a substantial amount of standing, sitting and working at a computer station throughout the day.
