We are seeking a self-starter Junior Documentation Specialist / Tech Writer located near the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. The Jr. Documentation Specialist / Tech Writer will focus on supporting web portal technologies and will be actively involved in all phases of the software development life cycle, including the documentation of project requirements, the development of use case scenarios and test script writing, and minutes taking at meetings. Doc Specialist / Tech Writer creates and edits end-user manuals and instruction guides.

SECURITY CLEARANCE : Secret clearance required.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO :

Work with technical staff and stakeholders to write and review technical documents and briefings.

Create documentation templates, format content, and present information in a concise, understandable format.

Track document versions and revisions.

Independently edit all final documentation for usability, readability, logical flow, and technical accuracy.

Incorporate review comments and corrections into existing documentation.

Assist program personnel with briefs, reports, and other documents such as training materials, user manuals, and other documents such as test documents and installation procedures.

Update, create and design online help files.

Creates and edits end-user manuals and instruction guides.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Minimum one year writing experience preparing manuals, documents, reports, responses, and briefings

Demonstrated proficiency in the fundamentals of writing and editing and the ability to produce a variety of written materials

Experience in effectively formatting / editing technical publications to include writing, editing, and illustration

Fluent in MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat

Experience supporting meetings (e.g., taking minutes, tracking actions and summarizing meeting content)

Familiarity in the fundamentals of graphic design and the ability to produce a variety of artwork and graphic materials using graphic capabilities of MS PowerPoint or other graphical tool

EXPERIENCE :

One to three years of experience preparing documents, reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences including senior management

Able to create and maintain a MS SharePoint website

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and HTML

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIREMENT :

Associate's Degree or equivalent documented combination of training and experience .

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT : Works in a normal office environment with controlled temperature and lighting conditions

TRAVEL : Up to 35% of travel may be required on an annual basis
