Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Oncology position requiring a current CA RN license and proficiency with Cerner EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 24-bed acute care oncology unit with general Med / Surg overflow
  • Day shift, 12-hour shifts (7 : 00 am – 7 : 30 pm), every other weekend required
  • First to float, with possible float to other Sacramento area facilities and MS / Tele units
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1 : 5 for general and 1 : 4 for Tele
  • Unit uses Cerner EMR
  • Unit is supported by a charge nurse (typically non-assigned), nurse aides as staffing / census allows, 24 / 7 respiratory therapy, and pharmacy
  • No vents; telemetry experience required
  • Unit provides care for oncology and Med / Surg patients, including those requiring telemetry monitoring
  • Report is given at the bedside
  • Self-scheduling available but finalized by manager; block scheduling generally not available
  • Holiday schedule participation required; candidates will work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s) with requests considered but not guaranteed
  • Floor-specific orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor
  • Scrub color is navy; under shirts must be navy, white, or black, and scrub jackets (optional) must be navy
  • Testing on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required during orientation
  • Previous employees of CommonSpirit (CHI / Dignity) within the past year are not eligible
  • First-time travelers will be considered

    • Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
  • Successful completion of the basic Dysrhythmia (Dys) exam prior to acceptance, or proof of passing Relias Dys exam within last 12 months
  • Two professional references required : one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 years
  • Copy of driver's license required
