Workplace Experience & Sustainability Team Associate Vice President

The Workplace Experience & Sustainability (WES) team Associate Vice President (AVP) will support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in overseeing the functions of Real Estate, Workplace Operations & Facilities Management, and Internal Events teams, as well as supporting the CFO in our sustainability practices.

The Associate VP will lead the WES team of 8 staff, and directly supervise the following positions : Director, Internal Events; Senior Workplace Operations Manager; and Operations Manager, Real Estate. The AVP may also provide leadership leverage in partnership with the CFO over 2 staff in the Sustainability team. This role is hybrid from Washington, DC, San Francisco, or New York City.

Responsibilities

Real Estate and Workplace Operations (50%)

  • Manage the Earthjustice real estate footprint; design workplace strategy; and execute relevant initiatives.
  • Manage all aspects of office lease negotiations, office relocations and consolidations, space allocations, etc., as assigned.
  • Ensure adequate monitoring of and accountability to all relevant lease terms, insurance requirements, regulations etc., and ensuring landlords / property managers are upholding their responsibilities to Earthjustice.
  • Monitor trends around hybrid work, commercial real estate, staff connection, etc. in the industry and Earthjustice to make recommendations and launch initiatives in a way that thoughtfully stewards organization funds.
  • Work across functions to lead strategy and execution of workplace safety, security, emergency planning, and business continuity. Serve on relevant committees, such as the Incident Response Team.
  • Synthesize and analyze all available data on organizational capacity, financial constraints, and long-term projected headcount and office growth to guide the organizations projected need for real estate.
  • Oversee the organizations facilities management practices, ensuring all offices are adequately managed and maintained.

Events and Sustainability (20%)

  • Provide oversight and leadership for the Internal Events (IE) team, ensuring events and their related practices are aligned to Earthjustice priorities and values.
  • Create systems of connectivity and alignment between Internal Events, Sustainability, and Real Estate / Workplace Operations teams to maximize the impact and efficiency of WES.
  • Support the design and implementation of sustainability goals across WES and Earthjustice to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and food waste.
  • Team Management and Supervision (30%)

  • Set clear team direction that aligns with Earthjustice strategy, mission, and vision, and promote change towards those goals with positive framing.
  • Proactively develop staff through coaching, performance feedback, and encouraging them to pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Hold yourself, and others on WES, accountable to the expectations of their roles, including people leadership and talent management.
  • Create a respectful and inclusive work environment for the team and model respectful and inclusive behavior, promptly addressing conflict or inappropriate behaviors.
  • Communicate regularly with existing employees and encourage staff to raise concerns and to provide ongoing feedback.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience, in a related field required, project management certification a plus.
  • At least 10+ years of experience in real estate, facilities, and organizational change management; understanding of and experience with a multi-site organizational structure highly preferred.
  • At least 7 - 10 years of administrative management; understanding of and experience with a multi-site organizational structure and non-profit experience highly preferred.
  • This position will be in a cross-functional supervisory role. A record of accomplishment of building and coordinating cross-functional teams by aligning organizational activities and resources with an organizations mission and strategy to help the team up level in skills and professional opportunities is of importance.
  • Hands on experience with the operations and business functions of an organization, preferably in a generalist or cross-disciplinary position.
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail; ability to work collaboratively in teams managing multiple projects with complex deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to look at the big picture and identify areas that need improvement as well as areas where costs could be reduced, or time could be saved in order for the organization to perform at an optimal level.
  • Experience with business process and system improvement projects and efforts, including building organizational alignment around new systems and tools.
  • A positive force in encouraging creative and solutions-oriented thinking and contributing to a positive, professional, and dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into relevant and understandable information; ability to train or instruct others in business processes and / or tools to support those processes.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Offices suite of programs : experience with Outlook, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint is of note. Experience with databases and other business applications.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of successfully meeting organizational goals and deadlines; solid budget management experience.

  • Physical Demands : Ability to travel to Earthjustice regional offices across the country and to local vendor offices, as necessary. Ability to work nights and weekends for special projects, as necessary.

    We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits that are comprehensive and competitive. We also offer a congenial, flexible, hybrid work environment and a casual dress code. As a 501(c)(3) organization, Earthjustice is a qualifying employer for purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. Salary depends on experience and location. Salary range in San Francisco, CA and New York, NY : $220,800-$245,300. Salary range in Washington, D.C : $209,800-$233,100.
