About the Job

Days / Hours - Saturday to Tuesday, 9 : 00pm to 7 : 30am (4 10-hour shifts)

Essential Functions :

85% - Technical duties

Assist with medical treatments of hospital patients, ex : feeding, oral medication administration, restraint for lab samples, etc.

Set up various procedures in ER, ICU, Surgery OR, etc. and assist clinicians and technicians during said procedures

Responsible for ensuring that all services and supplies are charged according to the hospital fee schedule.

Entering information into databases : histories into VetView, proper sample submission, etc.

Answer incoming calls from clients and from within the VMC. Return phone calls promptly and send messages accordingly.

Order, maintain and restock inventory in various services.

Reports changes in patient status to the clinicians and technicians of the service they are working in.

Participates in CPR.

Assist with patient hospital admission and discharges.

Complete essential VMC tasks including deep cleaning exam rooms, maintaining proper infection control protocols, emptying DogiPots; retrieving chemo and biohazard bins from various services, labeling them appropriately, and bringing them to the correct area for outside retrieval.

10% - Clerical duties

Support VMC clinicians and technicians with coordination of practice management - office and clerical duties, database management, mail / correspondence, facilities and maintenance, ordering of supplies, billing, communication liaison within the VMC, etc.

Appointment management including scheduling and updates.

5% - Additional Responsibilities :

Participate in practice process improvement initiatives

Participates in daily rounds, when applicable.

Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Clinician, or Director.

Transport of samples to diagnostic lab and VMC lab.

Transport of patients to and from services.

Maintaining sterile fields, proper sterilization cleaning and packaging for instruments.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications / Selection Criteria :

One year of post high school experience or education to include; animal restraint, veterinary medical terminology, veterinary anatomy, equine studies, etc. Knowledge of proper restraint and handling of dogs and cats. Experience with basic office procedures and proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Customer service experience. Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology. Flexibility to meet patient care needs.

The Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) has served the community for more than a century. It is the most advanced, full-service referral care center for large and small animals in Minnesota. The

VMC sees more than 35,000 cases annually, with specialists available in all areas of medicine and surgery. More than 50 of the veterinarians on staff have undergone several years of

additional training to become board-certified specialists in a particular area of veterinary medicine.

The Veterinary Medical Center is comprised of the Small Animal Hospital for dogs, cats, and other companion animals, the Piper Clinic at the new Leatherdale Equine Center, for horses, and

the Large Animal Hospital, which treats farm animals, and occasionally, zoo animals.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range : $21.63 to $23.83; depending on education / qualifications / experience

Time Appointment Category : 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
