Job description

Senior Product Manager - Technical Platforms

Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by diversity and inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health equity on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing Together.

The Senior Product Manager - Technical Platforms is a strategic and technically fluent product leader responsible for defining and executing the roadmap for a complex, technology-driven product domain within Optum's Payment Integrity suite. This role ensures product vision and system design move in lockstep - aligning business priorities with scalable, high-quality technical delivery. You'll own the roadmap for a core product or platform, guiding strategy, execution, and performance across multiple agile teams. Acting as the bridge between product strategy and engineering execution, you will collaborate with Product, Engineering, AI / ML, and Analytics partners to deliver intelligent, reliable solutions that drive measurable value for clients and internal users. This is a high-impact, hybrid role for a leader who thrives at the intersection of business, data, and technology - combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery oversight to bring innovative solutions to life. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Set Direction and Drive Execution
  • Translate product strategy into actionable technical roadmaps and delivery plans
  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog across delivery teams, ensuring alignment to business goals
  • Balance innovation, scalability, and technical debt reduction
  • Partner with engineering and architecture to align technical decisions with long-term platform goals
  • Lead Product Development
  • Guide TPMs and cross-functional teams through delivery cycles from backlog refinement to release
  • Ensure product releases meet quality, performance, and compliance standards
  • Monitor delivery velocity and outcomes, using metrics and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement
  • Anticipate and mitigate delivery risks, dependencies, and capacity constraints
  • Collaborate Across Business and Technology
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, AI / ML, and Analytics teams to deliver high-impact, data-driven capabilities
  • Serve as the connector between business stakeholders and technical teams to align scope, intent, and outcomes
  • Maintain transparency and shared accountability through proactive communication across leadership and delivery partners
  • Optimize Product and Platform Performance
  • Define and track KPIs for product adoption, performance, scalability, and ROI
  • Analyze data and user feedback to identify optimization and prioritize investments
  • Champion technical excellence through consistent measurement of uptime, responsiveness, and release quality
  • Build and Develop Teams
  • Mentor TPMs and delivery leads, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
  • Encourage experimentation and data-driven decision-making to accelerate delivery and innovation
  • Model Optum's product-led culture - builders and connectors who deliver outcomes, not just outputs

Success in this Role Means

  • Product releases consistently meet business, performance, and technical quality targets
  • Roadmaps balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability and innovation
  • Teams operate with clarity, autonomy, and shared purpose
  • Product and platform performance (availability, adoption, ROI) shows continuous improvement
  • Business stakeholders and engineering teams remain aligned on priorities and outcomes
  • At Optum, product leaders are builders and connectors - translating complex healthcare challenges into scalable, data-driven solutions that improve affordability and trust in the system. You'll work at the intersection of technology, analytics, and business strategy, leading teams that bring intelligence and automation to the core of healthcare operations. If you thrive on bridging the gap between strategy and execution - and can guide both vision and delivery - this role is your next great opportunity.

    Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in product management, platform development, or technical delivery
  • 5+ years of experience working with technology-focused products or platforms (AI, analytics, or enterprise systems)
  • 4+ years of experience leading cross-functional agile teams and managing complex initiatives
  • 3+ years of experience with system design, APIs, data architecture, and scalable platform development
  • 3+ years of experience translating business strategy into technical execution plans
  • 3+ years of experience in Agile and Scrum delivery processes, with proficiency in tools such as Jira, Rally, or Aha!
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into technical execution plans
  • Demonstrated solid analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent experience in business strategy, technology, or product management
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical product managers or agile delivery teams
  • Experience in healthcare, payment integrity, or claims management systems
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and microservice architecture
  • Knowledge of DevOps and CI / CD pipelines
