We are seeking a Senior Drainage Design Manager to lead teams on fast-paced transportation projects with subject matter expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management. The successful candidate will produce high-quality drainage deliverables on projects and pursuits and guide teams to achieve HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance goals : delivering quality work on time, on budget, and to the client’s satisfaction on every project.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB\'s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
- Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and client satisfaction. Lead client contract scoping and negotiations.
- Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
- Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB\'s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA). Lead development and execution of the project management plan. Supervise and mentor the team toward project objectives.
- Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, succession planning, and performance reviews.
- Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit teams to assist with business development, client relationships, and pursuit efforts for mega and super mega projects. Prepare proposal and presentation materials; lead proposal development and presentations for strategic projects.
- May recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff and support staff reporting and compensation reviews.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience leading a drainage team for delivery of design plans on complex transportation infrastructure projectsLead project teams in development of design modeling, calculations, plans, specs, and quality controlCollaborate with other disciplines to ensure a fully integrated designWork with project management and contracting partners to ensure an efficient, constructible designProvide engineering to develop cost estimates and identify risks for job pursuitsDevelop scopes, fees, and work plans to execute projects on aggressive schedulesAssign tasks and direct design to meet quality and schedule requirementsAct as a subject matter expert and provide senior review of designs, proposals, fee estimates, and scopes of work for projects nationwideHydrology and hydraulics design of surface water runoff collection and conveyance systems, stormwater management design, open channel modeling, scour analysis, and mitigation measuresProficient with standard industry software (MicroStation, InRoads Drainage, GEOPAK Drainage, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, StormCAD, HEC-RAS 1D & 2D, SWMM, PondPack, Culvert Master, Flow Master, etc.)What We Prefer
Master’s degree in Engineering15+ years of relevant experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management on fast-paced transportation projects, including progression to task and project managementProfessional Engineer (PE) certification, and ability to obtain PE in multiple statesExcellent communication skillsFamiliarity with construction methods and ability to optimize designs accordinglyFamiliarity with permitting at federal, state, and local levelsCA PE preferredAdditional Information
