Program Overview :
The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus.

What You'll Contribute :
We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Summer Software Engineering Intern who possesses a strong foundation in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages such as Apex and C#. In addition to OOP proficiency, the ideal candidate should bring experience in working with Relational Databases (such as SQL Server & Salesforce Objects), frontend technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and code design principles like SOLID and Least Knowledge. As a part of our dynamic team, you will be exposed to cutting-edge technologies, such as Azure DevOps for Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment pipelines, the Salesforce Experience Cloud, and Amazon Web Service (AWS). This opportunity is a great fit for an individual who aspires to be a Full Stack developer learning all aspects of the software development lifecycle. If you are a motivated and ambitious software engineering enthusiast, this internship promises a valuable blend of learning, innovation, and real-world application.
What You'll Do :
Demonstrate an eagerness to learn, adapt, and innovate while contributing to the enhancement of our student loan application website.
Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and maintain software components, using OOP languages like Apex, Java, and C#, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.
Engage in database design and management, employing Relational Databases to optimize data storage and retrieval.
Enhance user interfaces and user experiences by working on frontend development, leveraging HTML, CSS, and JavaScript technologies.
Within the context of Salesforce Experience Cloud – building independent components and full customer facing and agent facing screens / flows.
Build and integrate with REST APIs for client and server communication
Gain hands-on experience with Azure DevOps for managing Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI / CD) pipelines, ensuring streamlined software delivery.
Play an active role in Automation Testing, focusing on test case design, execution, and reporting to maintain the quality and reliability of our software products.
Explore AWS Infrastructure, working with technologies like AWS Lambda, AppFlow, API Gateway, and C# to build and maintain reliable and scalable systems.
Provide regular updates to the team and leadership on progress, challenges, and potential solutions, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Collaborate effectively within an agile development team, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, while fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency.
What You Have :
Minimum education, skills and experience required.
Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or related technical field
Open to undergraduate and graduate level students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2026 - May 2027
Availability :
This is a 10 week internship and expectations for a 40 hour work week for the following dates 5 / 26 / 26-7 / 31 / 2026.
We follow a 3 day flexible in office policy in Indianapolis office; designated housing is included in offer package for the internship dates outlined above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Adaptability and eagerness to learn
Self-motivated with strong initiative and curiosity about technology
Experience writing code using Object Oriented Programming (OOP) languages such as Apex, Java, C#
Experience working with frontend technologies using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Basic understanding of HTML / CSS and web development principles
Interest in enterprise-scale technology challenges and cross team solutions
Professional demeanor suitable for interaction with IT leadership and business stakeholders
Previous internship experience in technology preferred but not required.
