Job descriptionPossess, or obtain within one year of hire, the state Euthanasia Certification. Possess, or obtain, the state Chemical Capture Certification when training is available. Regular active periods of heavy exertion, which are performed in office, field settings and outside in varying weather conditions. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods of time; restrain and handle animals up to 150 pounds, and lift and carry 60 pounds; climb stairs, bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects, feel the size, shape and temperature of items. Work in various weather conditions. Handle unruly, aggressive, and otherwise dangerous animals safely and humanely. Must be able and willing to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to respond to off-hour call outs. Responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire for Animal Control Officer. Applications must be submitted through the City's online application system by 5 : 00 p.m. on October 6, 2025, to be considered. LATE, INCOMPLETE, FAXED, OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. There will be a pre-screening of all applications. Responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be individually reviewed and evaluated (weighted 30%). Top-scoring applicants will be called to a practical / oral panel interview (weighted 70%). These will be tentatively on October 15, 2025. All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months. A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register. The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Applicants claiming veterans' preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005. Extensive background checks will be conducted. New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range. This job classification is represented by the AFSCME Local No. 113 Union.
Animal Control Officer
The City of Everett is accepting applications on an open / competitive basis for the Civil Service examination process for an Animal Control Officer.
About the Job
The work of the Animal Control Officer involves enforcing the City of Everett Animal Control Ordinance and other applicable animal control laws, and assisting in the operation of the City Animal Shelter and other animal control operations. The work generally involves addressing animal complaints, patrolling the City to control animals, issuing citations and warnings, testifying in court, kennel maintenance and operations, shelter office operation, administer legend drugs and perform the euthanasia of animals, handling dead and injured animals, issuing various animal licenses, and conducting educational and informational seminars for the general public on animal care and control. The work is performed under the supervision of the Animal Control Manager or designee.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Washington State Driver License.
- Training and at least one (1) year of experience working with domestic animals in a professional environment.
