Senior Underwriter, Excess Casualty

Description

Were looking for a highly experienced underwriting professional to lead and grow a complex portfolio of Excess and Umbrella Liability business. As a Senior Underwriter, youll be responsible for evaluating and underwriting high-hazard risks, structuring layered liability programs, and managing umbrella placements across diverse industries. Youll work closely with brokers and agents to negotiate terms, drive profitable growth, and ensure underwriting discipline. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor junior team members and contribute to strategic portfolio management, making a direct impact on performance and market positioning.

Responsibilities

• Manages portfolio of brokers / agents and clients. Leverages market presence and knowledge to develop and underwrite profitable business, acting as a representative for Liberty.
• Maintains a strong market presence, including established relationships with agents and brokers. Looks to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones.
• Contributes ideas for product development and participates in development and execution. Contributes to team projects (e.g., process / tool improvement).
• Understands the work implications of relevant legislation and regulation.
• Collaborates effectively across teams, stakeholders, and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in GRS North America). Mentors junior underwriters and new hires (not as a line manager).
• May analyze department`s portfolio and make suggestions for development.
• May recognize and communicate emerging trends of exposures within line of business expertise.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and / or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
