Medical Care Provider
Provides general care to patients in outpatient clinic setting by performing the following duties :
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal.
- Documents past medical history of patients.
- Explains and performs prescribed procedures and treatments to patients in a timely manner.
- Greets patients upon encounter, verifies patient identity at each encounter, explains procedures to be performed, obtains verbal consent, and addresses patient questions and concerns.
- Administers ordered injections in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Observes patient and notifies supervisor or provider of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Performs all drug screening and breath alcohol testing procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations.
- Ensures patient immunizations are appropriate, well documented and administered using approved nursing techniques.
- Conducts provider referrals as well as pre-certifications on an as needed basis.
- Properly starts lab equipment daily; runs and documents controls; performs maintenance and cleaning of equipment as scheduled per written protocols.
- Collects specimens from the patient utilizing the approved equipment, sequence and procedure.
- Draws blood from patient's finger, vein, or other approved sites while observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
- Follows established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
- Reports results timely and notifies providers of abnormalities.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or results and follows procedures for the reporting and correction of deviations.
- Documents corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Adheres to laboratory quality control procedures and documents all Quality Control activities, instrument and instrument maintenance.
- Rotates among various clinical services such as lab, nursing and x-ray.
- Prepares rooms; sterilizes instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
- Follows 10 / 15 policy routinely.
- Ensures the work area is neat and clean, fully stocked and all laundry items have been laundered and put away.
- Manages difficult and emotional patient situations.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation.
- Observes safety and security procedures; promotes a safe and pleasant work environment.
- Reports potentially unsafe conditions to management.
- Responds to all patient messages; documenting conversations in electronic medical records system, assists with any patient discharging duties and shares responsibility of patient call backs.
- Maintains regular attendance to ensure efficient clinic operations.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school. Six months to one-year related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. CMA certification preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
