Design Engineer, Web & UI Systems

Overview

As a Design Engineer, Web and UI Systems, you will own the design and build quality of our client and internal web experiences. This is an AI first role for someone who uses tools like Cursor to ship real front end changes quickly and consistently, while using Figma to define clean, scalable UI patterns. You will maintain and improve select WordPress based pages during a transition period, while actively moving our delivery toward reusable UI systems and modern web application interfaces. You will work with enterprise clients and SMB or midmarket IT solution providers as we help organizations design and implement AI enabled experiences.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement user centered interfaces for web applications, websites, and client deliverables aligned to brand standards and usability best practices.
• Build and maintain a practical design system across Figma and code, including tokens, typography, spacing, components, and documentation.
• Use AI assisted development tools (Cursor and similar) to accelerate UI implementation, refactoring, QA, and consistency enforcement.
• Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes that translate cleanly into production UI.
• Contribute directly to front end codebases to ship UI updates, components, layouts, and styling changes.
• Maintain and improve WordPress pages as needed during the transition period, including page updates, layout fixes, responsiveness, and performance minded adjustments.
• Collaborate with developers to ensure accurate implementation, troubleshoot UI issues, and keep design and code aligned.
• Participate in client meetings, present design directions, and incorporate feedback while protecting usability and system consistency.
• Evaluate existing experiences, identify gaps, and propose high leverage improvements that reduce friction and increase clarity.
• Stay current on modern UI patterns, design systems, and AI enabled workflows, then operationalize what matters into repeatable team processes.
• Support internal initiatives where design and UI execution are a leverage point, including client portals, dashboards, and AI enabled workflow surfaces.

Qualifications

• Professional experience designing and shipping web experiences - bonus if in an agency, consultancy, or product delivery environment.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating web application UI, system thinking, and shipped outcomes.
• Advanced Figma skills, including components, variants, auto layout, and libraries.
• Hands on front end implementation experience. You can work in code, not just hand off designs.
• Demonstrated use of AI assisted build tools (Cursor strongly preferred). You can explain how it changes your workflow and show results.
• Strong visual design fundamentals including typography, layout, spacing, and responsive design.
• Working knowledge of accessibility and practical UI quality standards.
• Client facing communication skills with the ability to explain tradeoffs and drive decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience establishing or evolving a design system used across multiple surfaces.
• Experience designing for enterprise internal tools, operational dashboards, or admin workflows.
• Comfort working across varied client brands while maintaining a consistent delivery standard.
• Familiarity with modern front end stacks (React and component based systems).
• WordPress experience, including updating layouts and styling with a focus on consistency.
