Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising.

CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.

CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community.

The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

SALARY : $100,000-$120,000

Summary

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities within the College of Science and Health, the Program Director is a 12-month position responsible for leadership and overall management of the undergraduate psychology program (BS) to ensure quality educational experience for its students, efficient delivery of the program offering, and compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies and procedures.

The position has the responsibility of teaching, providing service to the university, and engaging in research and scholarship as outlined in the relevant Charles R.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Plans and implements effective program operations and activities. Supervises the implementation and assessment of the curriculum according to best practices and institutional and accreditation requirements.
  • Hires principal and associated faculty, evaluates their performance, and supports their ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Plans and manages program budget, fiscal resources, and faculty workload.
  • Assists in the development and submission of grant proposals to obtain funding.
  • Performs admissions activities, including student recruitment and interviewing.
  • Provides liaison with other College and University components and the community.
  • Monitors Program performance and prepares Program assessments.
  • Analyzes information and develops reports for internal and external sources.
  • Represents the Program, Department, College as appropriate in its relationships with the University, community, government agencies, professional societies, and similar groups.
  • Participates in professional meetings and conferences and / or contributes to journals or publications to maintain professional contacts and visibility for the Program, Department, College, and University.
  • Coordinates public information activities.
  • Participates in oversight of administrative personnel in the Division : assign daily tasks, prepare evaluations, and assures timely completion of various divisional tasks.
  • Participates in staff recruitment.
  • Assists the Chair in day-to-day operations of divisional administration.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources department and Chair , with issues of employee conflict and conflict resolution.

  • Planning and evaluating performance.
  • Providing on-the-job training.
  • Reviewing and checking work.
  • Disciplining / terminating employees.
  • Promoting / demoting employees.

Other Duties and Responsibilities :

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION :

Earned Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in clinical psychology / community psychology from a regionally accredited program or institution.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS (IF APPLICABLE) :

  • Board certified in psychology.
  • Current Driver’s License.

EXPERIENCE :

  • Five (5) years or more of full-time higher education experience at the time of appointment; prior leadership experience in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should have a record of scholarship that is consistent with the psychology discipline and commensurate to rank.

SKILLS :

  • Knowledge of educational program administration.

  • Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within psychology and, preferably, the healthcare industry.

  • Demonstrated commitment to service in underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and public service.
